Vague arguments to justify the deal!
by shivpujan on May 01, 2011 09:00 PM

Mr Chandra has ignored important questions and giving vague justifications. He should substantiate his claims of American fighter planes being inferior to French & European planes. On what basis he is making this claim when we are feeling concerned over Pak getting these planes which are considered very advanced technically and very deadly. Because Pak has these superior fighter planes, so is it not stupid arguments that we also should not have them and continue to have inferior planes. Performance of Mirage planes has come into cricism since long ago and the french manufacturer did not cooperate with India to upgrade them at reasonable cost.He is ignoring the vital question whether the deal provides for at least 80% of the planes will be manufactured in India with technology transfer by the French & European firms whom the contract is being awarded. There has been enough drain of money from this country and over dependence on forein suppliers in defence deals. China with much bigger budget is purchasing less defence equipments from abroad as they are producing it themselves. There appears huge corruption in defence deals in this country and the people should be vigilant now.

Primary question
by Tom Dick on May 01, 2011 08:50 PM

F16 or DF18 or Rafael or Dassault or MiG ,which is superior is not the primary question we should be asking. The question we should be asking is how much can we trust US once the deal is signed. They have never helped India in extraditing David Headly or others whom we want to question. When there is trouble and we need spare parts for our US weapons, they have so many laws forbiding export. Even now, I can assure you, they will tray and stop purchase of these European aircrafts by bringing out some law and by threating an embargo on these countries. They will have some American components on these palnes and they are not supposed to be re exported! Watch the fun and see all the dirty tricks US is going to play. They stoped supplying spare parts for Navys helicopters because we tested in Pokhran. They got all funny rules on nuclear exports. Not only they stop supply but they force others to stop supply.

I have no doubt that India has taken the right decision with regard to acquiring combat air crafts for the IAF, circumventing the US F16 & F18. The stupid Americans have always been the advocates of parity of weapons owned by India and Pakistan. The US never understood the strategic inevitabilities faced by India, and to promote the process, the US is now offering India the same fighters, which it had already supplied to Pakistan. The US is mainly viewing the multibillion dollar IAF deal, which shores up the US economy. The US has no genuine feeling that India must have the best fighter jets, which money can buy to safe guard its national security.

Why can't we make such planes
by iota on May 01, 2011 07:54 PM  | Hide replies

Our LCA, Saras etc.. just look like Toy planes.

They fly once in 6 months (that too without a single weapon), and TOI publishes headlines as if we have made a F-16.. :-(

I JUST WONDER WHO INDIA HAS GUTTS TO FIGHT WHEN HARMED ?

COUNTRIES BILLIONS ARE ALSO SMOKED IN DELAYED SHODDY AND SHADY DEALS.

THEN WE ARE SUPPRESSED BY OUR MINORITIES AND THE US TOO TO BE SOFT AGAINST PAKI. AND START PEACETALKS WITH THEM AGAIN WHILE THEY HAPPILY CONTINUE TO BLEED US.

CHINA IS ALL POWERFUL, WE CANT DEAL WITH THEM. OUR PM AND OTHERS GO THERE AND SAY, YES SIR, YES SIR, HINDI CHINI BHAI BHAI...PLEASE DONG GOBBLE UP OUR LANDS IN LADAKH AND ARNACHAL PRADESH....WHILE THOSE GUYS LAUGH THEIR STOMACHS OUT AND KEEP UP THEIR CUNNING INCROACHMENTS....JO HO SAKE VO KAR LO !

THEN THERE ARE NEPAL, SRILANKA AND MAYBE EVEN MALDIVES...WHO TAKE POT SHOTS AT US.

SO WHO ARE WE GOING TO FIGHT ? WE DONT HAVE TO INFLUENCE MILITARILY AND DIPLOMATICALLY.

WE ARE A BHAI-BAPA GOVT. FROM BHAI-BAPA PEOPLE.

Dodgy american conditions
by Neeraj Sharma on May 01, 2011 01:45 PM  | Hide replies

According to a lot of Pakistani commentators and news papers ,who are supposed to be ISI's mouth piece, the Americans have a dodgy dealings with the Paki air force. The new series F16s,which were given as alms to Pakistan are programmed not fly in the Indian air space. The Americans would have imposed a similar restriction on us.Besides that their entire new fleet are being maintained by the American technicians, based at the Jacobabad air base . They allow very limited access and technology transfer to their Paki counterparts. These conditions ,if imposed on Indian Air force could possibly have a detrimental effect on our capabilities to defend the country. I think for the first time the Govt. Of India has taken a bold decision and did not buckled under the American or the Russian pressure to safeguard our national interest.

there is one more pressure sir ! the Vatican pressure, which guides us to to Rafa.

There things happenning to us, which we never suspect in wildest of our dreams. So many hidden things are going on in this country. Our attention is dispersed to many lousy news items, while important and harmful things are allowed to go on scott free.

USA has created and supported Pakistani terrorism, which is largely anti Indian. Therefore India should try to avoid dealings with USA in defense matters, if equivalent technology is available elsewhere.

Happy to see.. congree....thought for the India...
by ashish manocha on May 01, 2011 01:22 PM

I hope its a good decision... to go for the European brands...

1. they r more specific n state of art R&D's.... for eg. Germany ...etc...

2. their products are better cost effective....

3. US escalated the cost n was then selling the product to India... n may be they would show giving some discount... its too less..

4. the money we send to US will be utilized for the Pakis.... So no NEVER....

* May b the US F22 came out to be better... but do we need them...just to kill the mosquito n fly like pakistan n china... NOPS... uske liyey toh HIT hee kafi hai...! Lol

sudden realisation
by divine on May 01, 2011 01:15 PM

Happy and at the same time amused to know that, there is a sudden realisation about the safety of the pilots by the ministry of defence. Whenever such things are expressed, but rarely, people should be careful as there will be an deep inner motive. Were the pilots who lost their lives during training in many obsolete jets and helicopters, not fit to live longer?

Whether the supplier is either Dassault or Eurofighter, definitely there will be kickback of a minimum of 10% which amounts to whooping 5100 crores.

Foolish tax payers will only stand in scotching sun and enjoy the jets zooming over their head in Aero Shows not knowing the efficacies of these redundant machineries.

Which ever government forms the government at the centre, they compromise the security and safety of both the people and country.

India is very vulnerable for sudden attacks by pakistan and china and its the duty of the government to keep such equipments atleast to challenge their capacity if not to arrest them.

Though, we boast, we are independent, in reality, we are still slave to UK and US.
