Realising the self, aham brahmasmi...
that is only scratching the surface mate.
Believe me, there is a lot to go before you can hold a debate with me on Hinduism.

And you know the reason?
You won't believe it.

HinduismIs NOT aReligion in its narrow sense. It is a conglomeration of variousBeliefs and even non-belief(Atheism). There are no similarities between theBeliefs of the AdivasisOfHighRanges ofIdukki and aPalghatBrahmin....or thousands of other groups spread across theCountry. They all are bound by one invisible thread.........the culture&civilization that goes back to more than 5000 years.

Why my reply was deleted?

Can't write it all again now.
Basically, Hinduism has a single thread, from which there are offshoots.
Ask the two group about Krishna, both will say they believe.

Entry Age Bar
by Sonia Sing on Apr 12, 2011 04:45 PM

There is no need for Retire age in Politics, but there should be Entry Age bar of 40 Years to keep the "Amul Babies" serve the "Aam Admi" until such age rather than day dreaming of becoming of PM as their Birth Right.

In these difficult times we are told that we should go to the temple, that we should get in touch with God. We do not need the temple. We do not need to get in touch with "God." We need to get in touch with each other.319

On the basis of biological, sociological, and historical knowledge, we should recognize that the individual self is subject to death and decay, but the sum total of individual achievement, for better or for worse, lives on in the immortality of the Larger Self; that to live for the sake of the species and posterity is religion of the highest kind; and that those religions which seek a future life either in Heaven or in the Pure Land, are selfish religions.

Patriot, you will never beat me on a debate on Hinduism!

First, what do you mean by allowing an impersonal God? The advaitha sidhantha which I mentioned earlier is the crux of this concept.
Even then, the power is supposed to be all powerful and with a 'mind'.

That again is different from the core advaitha sidhantha, where cause and effect are inseparable.

That is the simplistic, Wikipedia kind of definition.
That is why I told you before, you won't understand if I go deep in there.
Advaitha sidhantha's core is the relation between cause and effect. Karya-karana relation.
Go read some real books, give wiki a break!

To be thoroughly religious, one must, I believe, be sorely disappointed. One's faith in God increases as one's faith in the world decreases. The happier the man, the farther he is from God.

The study you are quoting is from the US, surveying the 'scientists' working in US universities. Is that your standard?
If you take that survey in India, you will find the total opposite.

And my claim, I still stand by that. I didn't go on because you changed your criteria to be of 20/21 century scientists.

Hinduism believes in a personal God. The religion is defined by that. There is no papering it by saying 'permits'.

You are the best example of what I told Patriot in this post, and to you in the post below.
No one is going to change their opinion based on what 60% scientists said, or what majority of the population believes.
Matter of fact, it is waste of time debating God.
