Anna hazare, the torch bearer against corruption
by chiranjiv Kukreja on Apr 09, 2011 06:34 AM

The circumstances have been created by the politicians with their tolerable actions or empathy towards corruption that common man has come to the conclusion that time has come to take the monster of corruptin by horns and Anna provided the lead with his selfless service record. It is really heartening that youth has taken a plunge and vow to remove corruption and it augers well for the country.

Youth.................................Ayotollahs
by SUDHIR PARASHER on Apr 09, 2011 06:30 AM

There are some cynical voices being raised in support of Politicians, one is in this article, supporting the bad virtue CORRUPTION.
I think Politicians sitting in Delhi did not like that a simple man from rural India, came and shook them and forced them to do ,what they were avoiding for past 42 years. They thought contolling the Lives of People of India,is their birth right.Once elected, they have full right to play around with Tax payer's money and their lives for five years.
Mr Ramman !do not use word Ayatollaha(extreme word) for such a noble cause. Our culture and people do not belong to that extreme group of people.Look at the disciplined & peaceful approach by Mr Anna and Youth ,that they forced govt to agree a noble cause in 4 days, which was pending for 40 years. This shows the politicians do not act because of their self interest and they are not bothered about the people who elected them. Compare this to Mid east movement which is full of voilence and still the problem is not solved.

B Raman- STOP AZZZZ licking farty & smelly politician
by Whiteman on Apr 09, 2011 05:06 AM  | Hide replies

who is this idiot Raman? how did he become a journalist. As much as I have seen in India, the guys who do not do well or fail to get a better berth in university, take to journalism or politics.Nevertheless it is basics to reporting that a journalist needs to get his facts right. Otherwise better write fiction, for bollywood movies. Atleast that will give him more money than some pieces, spits of saliva or bones to chew for him & his family members, kids included, thrown by corrupt politicians-whom he is trying to smartly protect. B Raman stop licking and start thinking, otherwise you are a waste of a life, better now than never.

The cautionary of Mr Raman needs to be taken seriously. It is easy to get carried away by the tirade against corruption. This furore of educated upper caste middle class seems to be more an angst of sufferers of corruption.

While it makes sense to maintain the momentum of this mobilisation effort, unless the wise words of Mr Raman are heeded to, all that shall be achieved would be pyrrhic victory, instead of real or lasting gain.

Karnataka had a Lok Ayukta since eighties, but the situation did not really improve, got worse. Such an authority, even when installed, can not be a panacea.

It would not be easy for their leadership to provide guidance to take the populist fervor forward towards reachable goals. Heeding to and respecting the observations of likes of Mr Raman could avert disaster.

It is not wisdom, nor safe to build up an idealist with no proven record to deliver any kind of governance nor acumen for leadership except fast and demand agitation approach to galvanize masses. We have lived through the political maelstrom of Garibi Hatao, which only put our economy behind China by twenty years.

There are also eminent men associated with this movement which makes this mobilizations a promising one. Mr Prashant Bhushan has been quoted in The Hindu as -- hopeful of the protest growing into a movement towards participatory democracy. -- The presence of these thoughtful, eminent people indicates something sound and sensible, with potentials for far reaching import is going on.

The goal of participatory democracy can not be achieved by discrediting mainstream parties and their political leadership.

May be this fledgling movement would blossom into a Tea party kind of movement which is now integral to Republican Party.

If this needs to happen, a pre-condition is avoiding mindless demonisation of politicians and political parties.

It seems given the specific nature of the movement, which is exclusive focus on corruption, wider and meaningful participation is more likely by keeping it strictly a non-political movement. As long as it is non-political, participation of even shady and ambitious ones like Baba Ramdev carries no risk.

To assume that they alone are interested in eliminating corruption and not the politicians, nor the bureaucrats, is a flawed approach, which does not promote trust required to negotiate required changes in laws and systems to mitigate corruption.

If Gandhian spirit is to prevail, truth must prevail, and truth alone can elicit cooperation from all parties. Mindless hate of politician, holding them alone responsible for prevalent corruption is not facing upto Gandhian truth.

Did Hazare become broker of cartel like Mahata gandhi for Angrez
by D S on Apr 09, 2011 04:45 AM  | Hide replies

Was this a pre-planned sellout? because double-faced broker of bjp-congress like Kiran Bedi were involved.

something new will arrive for REVOLUTION
Hope people can clearly see the looters or loot promoters acting as FRIENDS, SAINTS, INNOCENTS and India need you for long in this fight against looters.
1. where is the direct election of PM and CM by people(lok)???
2. Where is the direct impeachment power to people(lok) for voting out (forever) the one/many they voted to power once they become corrupt ??
3. And more.
wrong directions are taken in bad company like kiran bedi and one agrees to talk with agents of evil like kapil sibal, MMS, sonia, etc. Some said rightly, bjp and congress both should end. what we need is full scale REVOLUTION.

Partially agree
by Amit K on Apr 09, 2011 04:45 AM

I am completely for the Lokpal bill. I just read the text of the proposed bill by Anna & agree to an extent that some points are Draconian.

Lets face it, we have elected these corrupt politicians. If we want, we can boot them out in the next election. What if there is a dictator like Lokpal elected? He cannot be a law in himself. He has to be accountable to someone - not the politicians but someone.

Seriously Raman keeo your conspiracy theories to yourself. Anna Hazare did not write the Jan Lokpal Bill. A group of people from the Civil society wrote the bill.

sorry to say, it is an article in bad taste. It insults the ability of youth and people's right to support a just cause. The reading of events is also based on wrong assumptions.
It seems the article is written in haste and bewilderment.

Check your facts before writing or quit reporting
by muthu kumaran on Apr 09, 2011 01:50 AM

Anna Hazare never demanded to be the chairman of any group/sub-group/committee. He has re-iterated the same during a recent CNN-IBN interview. Either this is maligned reporting or poor reporting.
