Religions especially dogmatic ones like Xianity, Islam, Judaism lay more emphasis on an abstract world or Heaven which is supposed to be permanent whereas this world we live in is supposed to be just a temporary phase, a stepping stone to Heaven
This causes such believers to revile and abuse our earth. They think nothing of detonating devastating bombs as well as bombing themselves for some imaginary 'heaven'
Whereas all over the world, atheists like myself have realized how beautiful and fragile and ONE OF A KIND is this earth that we live in and that we should protect it and cherish its beauty and preserve it for future generations

You are correct- all these religions are man-made, and created only big problems for people, the planet and also the animals. Man is no more holy or complex than your dog.

U dont have to be a atheist to belive what you belive in. It just requires common sense. Just remember...atheists/leftists also have caused killings in millions as well destruction of natural resources.

Actually Hinduism of earlier times was celebration of nature itself as most of the festivals coincide with change in seasons.
But today, due to industrialization and incorporating a Western lifestyle, the celebrations can go a bit haywire as pointed out by the above article. But people by and large would not deliberately want to poison the environment, it is an unfortunate consequence of our development

You are absolutely right. We should leave planet earth for the future generations instead of destroying the same, for what ever reason. Many people think "after me delude". That attitude should change.

Here in America, the right wingers don't really care about the Earth, deny global warming, etc. because they believe that the "end-times" are at hand anyway.
Religion really does poison everything.
I'm glad to see that I'm the only atheist who reads rediff.
