The UID and National Population Register is all set to do what IBM did in Germany, Romania and in Europe and elsewhere through 'solutions' ranging from the census to providing list of names of Jews to Nazis. The UID has nothing to do with citizenship, it is merely an identification exercise.

This project is CRAP!!
by SSK on Oct 12, 2010 04:27 PM  | Hide replies

Why do you need a separate UID project? Why to spend Rs 1.5 trillion? You can easily link fingerprints & ratina scan records with exististing PAN numbers. This will be a one time activity which will automatically eliminate duplicates.

UID must replace only existing cards
by hotz on Oct 12, 2010 04:19 PM  | Hide replies

It is used so that people receive government initiatives and not looted by middle man,we already have ration card, passport,PAN card etc Introduction of UID will only affect people who have two ration cards, voter id cards etc...It is not going to be mandatory to buy birth control or vegetable from retailer and only for government schemes such as PDS etc so chill out

Indian System still not matured for UIS
by ashish sharma on Oct 12, 2010 04:14 PM  | Hide replies

There is no need to be scared of transperancy but unfortunatly we do not have the maturity to handle the data. There is every possibility that your data will be sold for any amount of money. And UID is only to target the poor common man or middle class. The rich wil still be able to evade it. The IT Laws or SEBI has been helpless & we have seen so many cases of this in last 20 years. UID is good but the Indian System is not mature to handle it. It will only lead to more trouble for the "Aam Aadmi".

BOYcott UID
by Sunil Chandrashekharan on Oct 12, 2010 04:00 PM

Like the ruling party Misuse the CBI now, they will misuse the UID to collect information to use to their advantage. They will use the information to control you. If you lodge a complaint against an authority , they will hunt you down using your UID. The UID will be introduced as a optional thing like PAN card and soon they will make UID necessary for a lot of things.
Boycott UID

Not true

As long as UID's can't be faked, I think it will help tap all the black money including money belonging to politicians. This will enrich India and funds can be used where needed.

UID is not made to tap money or help poor. If the govt wanted to stop money all they need is some political will to do an enquiry into the accounts of all the ministers and their staff.

Something better than Nothing

Mr Praful, do you have any suggestions to overcome the extortion and collusion possibilities? If not, please stay back on your arm chair and stop putting down an ambitious project like this. Your political friends ( left group) tried to stop the computer revolution in India. Imagine, if that had happened, you would not have a forum like this to put forth your views! This is worse than being orthodox and the party he supports is considered progressive! bah!
