STUPID comments...
Do you mean 100 crore terrorists live in India? I would not trade my private information just to get a UID card... Does that make me a terrorist? If you want to track terrorists track terrorists, not every citizen living in India...

You point is well taken but then what is the way out? Models based on the developed nations or the failed systems? Certainly creating the fear psychosis in the peoples mind wont work as the current author trying to.

UID is like a double edged sword, can be misused to track down innocents to trouble them as well...

In democracy, people should be given choices.... Not everything has to be enforced by LAW... I don't believe that GOI can achieve anything great by taking private information...

By the way what private information is govt is rewuiring from you? I dont think govt is asking your secrets. Just the information required to prove you identity. Is that really private ? You have to look at the positive site instead. At many occassion you have to show your identity, be it getting a SIM, using cyber cafe, passport, ration card, Bank acc. and many more. What is the problem if one good thing solves all these problems. And finally defining the real poplation of this country. Yes I appreciate your concern that people should be given choice. But this is an ideal situation which may not work in real conditions, like criminals, terrorists, thiefs will always oppose such moves as it will be really difficuly for them to operate. So do you want to suggest that these peoples dhould be given the choice....

I agree with you, so why dont take the positive side of UID. People whos job demand moving to different places very often suffers because of producing address proof, identity proof formality etc. I guess UID will be of some help in that regard.
How can it disntiguish between Illegal person who has been able to get a ration card or a driving licence etc by fakings, there are lots of bangaladeshis, Nepalis,& even pakis etc who are lost after coming in India thru valid documents this will legalise them and will provide them the status of the citizenship.I am afraid how this loop hole has been closed in UID scheme.Mushraf has openly told that the Indian borders are porous and any one can crosss and reach to any place in India thru with out being noticed, especially in the areas where the language is same like Kashmir,Punjab, bengal etc.Apart from that the database being misused for what ever purpose either by marketing companies or others.......

Actually Congress wants these illegal Bangladeshis, Pakistanis and Nepalis to be legal citizens so that they have safe vote banks. That is the reason for UID and nothing else.
Now the indian government has proved to be a BIG IDIOT. The government is not looking over the issues (poverty, corruption, population, employment etc. etc) of the country, but is dying to do such COMPLETELY ABSURD job.
The UID is a spying game. Already we have a curruption department called Central board of direct tax which extracts "Advance Tax" and other unscrupulous taxes. Now everything is linked up. Everyone will be "suspects" - except for the politicians. Oh yes, next is the caste census excercise. Everything is linked up. Our racist nation can become more racist using this caste data, which it does not ever what to abolish.
Trust that the UID is compulsory for all bureaucratic personnel, babus and politicians on equal basis. It is from here that Corruption starts. I hope these people are not exempted......and in fact they should not be exempted.
In India's dummy democracy, Govt is wasting 10,000 crores on UIDAI project where 80% Indians are living under 20 rupees per day. Why Govt is not issuing Passports for 10 rupees?

Mr. Wrip Wan Wickle please wake up. You can't even get a maid to work for Rs 30 for half-a-day now; they demand more and it is not easy to get one. Actually, there is a labour shortage.
