by Chand on Nov 30, 2010 06:33 AM  | Hide replies

So there is no thinkers on the Left?!. Looks like people who pave way way for one way trade that benefits the West are all great thinks. People who ask us to be cautious are not!

if it was the congress govt dispensing the awards, the winners would be such fantoos (to use a word from the movie guru) as arundhatti roy or burqua dutt.
i can't beleive razakaria is on this list. he is a smart journalist, no doubt, but a thinker with a global reach? no way. educating dumb american couch potatoes some simple stuff does not make one a thinker.

NE students protest rape of Mizo girl
Spl Correspondent
NEW DELHI, Nov 29 — Demonstrators hailing from the northeastern region today urged Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to order strict action against culprits involved in the recent incident of rape, besides financial compensation and government job for the victim.
Describing the incidents of harassment of girls and women as ‘sexual terrorism’, the protesters belonging to Delhi Mizo Students’ Association, Mizo Welfare Association and Mizo Christian Fellowship, Delhi alleged that the country has been brought to shame by this heinous sexual violence against women in the national capital.

A 30-year-old woman was picked up by five men from Dhaula Kuan and gangraped after forcing her into a tempo. The Delhi Police has released stretches of two suspects, while one was picked up from neighbouring Haryana.

I think quite a lot. I mean.. like ..really well.
Which career should I pursue to become a thinker. Or is there is any part time diploma available to become a thinker, preferably in the evening on weekdays.

Though there is a funny side on this question, it is interesting to see what could be real answer. A great thinker is identified from the quality, impact, and transformative nature of his work on the real world. It is perceived that his/her thinking resulted in such big impact on our world! Impact is a relative and subjective word. However, when more people appreciate their work as good, that gets raised in the ladder of respect. Many ordinary Indians are real great thinkers.

Greatest thinkers were considered the greatest losers too.

Socrates, Plato and Aristotle were considered losers, rational, and dangerous. They all faced numerous troubles including being labeled as losers. Some great thinkers were jailed or killed in the past centuries. Sometimes ordinary citizens, branded losers, turned out to be creators of valuable new thought. Was Karl Marx a loser as he lived a poor struggling life? Was he a great political thinker? Was Valmiki who wrote the Ramayan a loser during his lifetime? He turned out to be one of the most respected figure in Hinduism. How about Lord Ram who lost his family for a substantial part of his life? Didn't Jews consider Jesus Josesph (son of the carpenter Joseph) as the biggest loser during his lifetime. For the rest of the many millenia, Jesus was, and is, worshipped and loved by the most of the world's population.

World realized the value of such losers much later. So, we can't just call someone as loser just because he asked a question that took you to think a different and unexpected direction.

Just hold our temptations to answer for a moment, we will realize a whole new dimension to such questions.

The below quote well summarise the thinking merrit of the concerned person. If

In a recent visit to Washington, he reminded his audience that US exports to India have grown faster over the last five years than those to any other major trading partner.

Note that it is US export and not India's export and he is proud of it!!! Shame on him!!! Where US is -2.5 and India is -5.2 of deficity...

Shiv Shankar Menon
by paul sebastian on Nov 29, 2010 10:27 PM  | Hide replies

I think the country will not forgive him for taking the country out of the leadership of NAM. Alliance to west always comes with a price tag, like the one Arundhati Roy pays now.

This thinkless guy took out an opportunity for India to be a world leader to a slave.

Good point. India is making a totally unnecessary alliance with a rogue regime guilty of war crimes in Palestine and this is further inciting extremists to lump India along with the rogue regime.

West is not recognising, but rewarding for the services rendered. Not to take the rating seriously.

Good point, Raman. It is time that we work to create an environment of respect within India.

We need to begin recognizing great Indian citizens within India.

My trust on Padma awards is low as it is heavily influenced by politics, government, and sometimes money.

So, I would vote for informal, news paper based, rankings that are very powerful in encouraging the people.

do u think that Indian newspapers and media are honest and sincere? most of them are corrupt to the core but appears honest at the veneer! Advertisement revenue crazy, they change their edit. policy to avoid even small reduction in circulation. most of them had subscribed whole heartedly to the Goebbels technique.
