I think the railways must have run into losses of crores of rupees because of yesterdays strike. All bandhs and strikes should be dealt with strictly. Anybody responsible for loss to the nation should be asked to pay for it.
The condition in Mumbai yesterday was pathetic.Since the train service was disrupted people were forced to use road transport. The vehicles were crawling and it took almost 6 hours to travel from Churchgate to Borivali.I dont know how people living further reached home. Is this the quality of life offered to people of the financial capital of India who pay a bulk of the nations taxes?Where is the money disappearing?People should agitate against lack of facilities to support a population of 1.5 crore people.A Mumbaikers experience in buses and trains is like chickens and cattle dumped into a cramped and suffocating van.And above all there is the threat of water scarcity. Why are we still dependent on water supply resources created in British era? A mumbaiker has become a scape goat. Is this really the so called City of Gold?

I have told this many times to everyone I know.. Mumbai has become a victim of its own Fantasy.. In the name of 'The Spirit of the City" anything & everything is stuffed down the throat of the City & its people. The conditions in Mumbai has become down right pathetic not just because of this Strike. This Strike just exposed how vulnerable the City is or how thin its resilience is. Now tomorrow, all newspapers will talk about the 'Spirit' whcih cannot be put down but its actually a person without options being flogged.
I cant imagine how a revolution has not happened in Mubai yet with the common man lynching the Politicians for what they have done to this City.. Not one road, not one civic facility in 60 years & everyone is talkign about 'Pride' of Mumbai...? What Pride? Today one & all should be focussed in avoiding this Great City becoming a Shame of the Country...

Please keep yourself informed. The motormen had informed the general public about the hunger strike well in advance and had also held placards at various stations informing their impending action.

IRRESPECTIVE OF WHETHER THEY HAVE INFORMED OR NOT. THEY CREATED A MESS. THEY SHOULD PAY FOR THEIR ILLEGAL ACTIONS

how dare you say striking by motor men as illegal, what happens when political parties observe bundhs, hartals etc, wheat happens when doctors, advocates, and so many similar people gone on strike, this you don't feel illegal, you have to pity the motor mens' working conditions, they work without a weekly holiday, so please have some sense and understand the situation.
Mumbai has poor infra as all the money gets spent on Delhi infra. Govt collects taxes in Mumbai and spends in Delhi. Can the Central govt even think of hosting common wealth games in Mumbai. Its next to impossible. Mumbai is'nt a city its a big slum a sweatshop owned by Delhi.

We should refuse to pay taxes, if they do not provide us with facilities.....

I TOTALLY ACCEPT THE COMMENTS OF HARSH GOYAL. OUR MP'S ARE RESPONSIBLE. ALWAYS THE RAILWAY MINISTER IS FROM BIHAR OR BENGAL. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT MUMBAI AND AND BEHAVE MUMBAI LIKE MILCHING COW. THE MP'S ARE NOT DOING ANYTHIG ABOUT MUMBAI AND ESPECIALLY RAILWAY INFRASTRUCTURE OF MUMBAI. THEY ARE CARELESS BECAUSE THEY NEVER TRAVEL BY LOCAL TRAIN SO HOW DO THEY KNOW THE SUFFERINGS OF MUMBAIKAR. WE WANT RAILWAY MINISTER FROM MUMBAI. THEN AND THEN ONLY WE CAN THINK SOMETHING POSITIVE ABOUT MUMBAI RAIL INFRASTRUCTURE.

One can find worst example of lack of infrastructure in case of country's number one business district Bandra Kurla Complex. The plight of thousands of employees who need to reach BKC either from Kurla Station or Bandra is seen to be believed. Where are the required infrastructures? No proper approach, no efficient public transport. No auto would be available for Kurla or Bandra after 5.30 in the evening. A large number of buildings are under construction. Diamond bourse is to commence operations. After a couple of years, it gives jitters even to think what would be the plight of a person working there and has to depend upon public transport? And just think of it that BKC is more than a decade now.

all the money is spent to make NCR a better region ( Without the civic sense)
These motormen were prevented from going on strike before 12/05/2010 by a conciliation board and yet these men deliberately went on strike and put everybody including students who were undergoing annual examinations. These animals must be terrorised in such a way they should forget the word strike. These men knew and wanted the general public to be put to trouble so that their demands will be fufilled.Because they resorted to strike with out giving notice to travelling public they should be tried not only under ESMA but also under all criminal laws and made to attend the court till their retirement.

if govt now listens to the motormen's demands; why till date they were nit accepted? was govt waiting for the common man to suffer before they give the employee what they want?

All Motorman should be sacked without mercy who created the mess and make public a standstill on road... It will teach a lesson for govt employess who jeopardize public life...All Motormens PF, Gratuity should be taken back for yesterday loss and people who got suffered.. if someone take this bold step no one will try to create the dare consequences in future.. even they will not think too.. give the employment oppportunities of lot of youths who are thriving for a headstart in their life and career.....Jai Hind
The motorman strike was not sudden. They had raised their concerns for the last 3 months and as a last resort went on strike. What is interesting is the numerous boards that read that they are going on strike as a last resort and as the govt is not paying heed to them. If the media would have paid a lill more attention to this issue besides tracking the gossip and talking to the ipl super stars, the strike would have never happened.
On the other hand, the railway union could have played the PR/ Media card more thoroughly so that enough awareness was created prior to the strike on the reasons and that it was a last resort.
On top of all of this it may be center's tactics to let things take longer and corner mamata madam who is making life difficult for the center in the coming elections.
None the less, given the fact that the motorman community has not being heard for last 3 months, this should be seen as a last resort not to harras the public.

False. The general public knew of the strike only on sunday when the railways advertised the potential strike on 2nd May 2010.
