The conduct of Advani at the time of "internal emergency" or "authoritarianism" of Congress is the only instance where he comes out like a statesman. If this is the general mindset of BJP guys, It is difficult to understand why the RSS ideology speaks highly about Fascism/Nazism in its original works.Today's BJP is more centrist than the 1990s.
Mr. Mohan Dharia's piece on the subject is insightful. Of course, he was not tied down to the questions put to him by an interviewer who was either not born at the time of the 'Emergency' or was too young to see its significance and enormity of the injustice it inflicted on Indian people. It had the paternalistic smell that the colonial Britain's attitude had towards India. One concedes that Mr. Advani and others of the Janata Dal showed great courage in getting organized and fighting the elections, but they squandered the chance away because of the myopic view of the future. It was the same myopia that sent Mr Advani-Bajpai's government home again in 2004 and put in power the bunch of sly blackguards of UPA in power again. All of them have been looking for the silver bullet-or rather the silver opium pill- to send the voters in a comatose condition to ensure unending rule by their kith and kin. Religion was the favorite of Mr. Advani's party, visions of future in which all can make a lot of money is that of the rest of the political parties. The latter wins more votes because it sounds more plausible. But both are opiates and poisonous.
It is not in good spirit to rake up the old subjects for discussions. There are several more serious subjects to be debated. Look at the present scenario. Every state is running after MEGA LOANS. There is no regulation to avail loans. Everything done on the prescription of men at the top. Even a small retail shop owner does a study of the profitability of any financial commitment. But the govt is averse to make any transparent financial study before availing any loans. No political party is exempted. Why not the state govts pass some type of enactments for availing loans? What a pity? The nuclear deal and liability act is a subject to be studied in detail by every patriot of this great nation. The dangers hidden in the deal and in the ongoing progress are very dangerous to the nation. Is there any leaders or any retired bureaucrats to explain to the people the” the snake under the grass”? Should we put the coming generation to beg before the world for HELP? YES! “"Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it."”
This guys survived the emergency, just to create his own version of it, by going on a Rath Yatra, and instigating violence nation-wide. His only acheievment is the demolition of Babri masjid, and killing thousands of innocent muslims.

Advani saved democracy in India first by fighting the emergency and second by building a strong opposition party to stop the monopoly of congress. Only after BJP took the centre stage in politics, India marched with potential momentum on developement. Else, still we wouldn't have had golden quadraples, SarvaSikshaAbiyan, USA calling us for deal due to our strength proved in pokran etc. We misses a great leader like Advani to become our PM who had travelled every part of India and have clear ideas on all internal and external issues. He will be hailed in history for serving democracy and developement of India.

Alas, most of the people of the country are not as wise as ganapathi (whoever he may be)and Mr. Advani is destined to remain in the opposition for the rest of his life. Campaign by his supporters through Rediff will not take him anywhere.

Are you completely stupid, he was born in Karachi and spent the first few years of his life there, Karachi, then was in India, cant you understand, so how have you come to the conclusion that he was not born in India, when India was partitioned, Karachi went to Pakistan, the how is Advaniji responsible for being born in what is now called Pakistan, are you a complete idiot?

How can you blame all of India's woes on Advaniji? How could he have united India when Gandhi and Nehru could not? He was not responsible for India's partition, you are a nincompoop if you think so.
