Congress Rajneeti
by sanjiv goel on Jul 05, 2010 02:34 PM

4.5 years they increase prices.
then they announce election.
then they reduce some inflation.
while voting public remembers that in 6 months prices have come down. public votes for congress.
if sonia knows how to bring down the prices in those six months, why does she not use the same strategy for the other 4.5 years.
its only to understand.
so congress is for AAM AADMI. (Mango aadmi. congress is for the aadmi that affords to eat mangoes).

While the government declares that de regulation is necessary, as oil companies are facing losses due to administered oil prices, the website of the oil companies declare that they are profit-making. Strange indeed.

What has the bandh achieved?
by Radhakrishna Iyer on Jul 05, 2010 02:25 PM  | Hide replies

Every action is expected to bring in some benefits or at least this is what any rational person expects to happen. Sometimes what is planned for does not happen and that too is understandable since plans can be thwarted and progress in a particular area run a road block. I have been trying to understand what the targeted plan was but cannot come up with a clear answer.

Was the plan to get the government to roll back deregulation of petroleum products? if that were so then I can see that nothing at all has happened. The government has reiterated its resolve not to roll back anything.

Was the plan to get people enthused with the opposition point of view. Looking at the tactics used and real public participation of the aam admi I'd say that this plan too came a cropper.

Was the plan to make law and order take a beating on the day - make India ungovernable? Hardly likely given the real lack of public participation!

Was the purpose political - to make some come back and gather more votes from the aam admi. Given that a huge proportion of the people live on the border line and whose daily bread for the day was snatched by overweight and over fed politicans - I'd say that the politicians involved in the bandh did a grave disservice to their own cause. If anything they have earned the hatred of the poor.

Was the plan to vent steam and frustration by damaging government and therefore by extension public - you & me - property? In this area I can see resou

Price rise is troubling - govt. is not serious
by Nitin Sharma on Jul 05, 2010 02:15 PM  | Hide replies

If prices keep rising like this, imagine what would happen 10-15 years from now. Even though I can afford to buy food now, I am not sure whether it will burn my pocket in the future. Food is a necessity of life and the way food inflation is rising, I fear for the poor people of India.

Milk prices have risen 6-7 times in the past 6 months, dal is twice what it was last year, atta has risen by 70%.

This is not a BJP or Left protest - it is a common man's struggle to make the government realize that they are drowning under this flood of price rise. Some of this is due to the genuine supply side/production issues, however some is artificially manufactured/ hoarded by the rich and powerful.

The government has won a mandate for 5 years and is dismissive of these concerns. The need to hear our voice loud and clear and start working now to address the issues.

How many of the opposition ruled states have reduced their share of taxes to take the load off aam aadmi. the bandh is only hypocritical, let the Left from in WB, BJP in Gujarat & MP & JD in Bihar, Akalis in Punjab as well as other south states where Congress is not in power make the VAT/local taxes on petrol to nil & then force the centre to reduce the Central Tax and ED on this. They continue to enjoy the benefits of these high prices and blame the centre for increasing prices. Let them do their own part first and corner the centre later. AAM AADMI TABHI BACHE GA

On Corruption, all parties join hands!
by Romesh on Jul 05, 2010 02:10 PM  | Hide replies

These so called opposition parties don't come together on important issues like corruption, inflation etc. On petro price hike, they join hand to protest. This is a wateful bundh serving no purpose.
On corruption all parties Join Hands. Look at Karnataka, shameless politicians loot the natural resources on one hand and allow its goon officers to extort money from publc with every opportunity.. RTO, Sub Registrar, Corporation related, polution related, birth related, death elated.
Every officer (exception one in lakh) is corrupt to bottom and no fear of demanding.
Look at the rates:
Govt Fees Expense
Birth Certificate 25 250
Death Certficate 25 500
RTO License 100 1000
VAT REgn 2250 10000
30x40 Site RRgn ??? 50000
Land conversion ??? Rs 100/sft
De conversio ??? Rs 100/sft
Can we go anywhere like this? Poor people starve for food and bearaucrats go on stacking money in gunny bags and go a-on acquiring oproperties!
Shameful demovracy !
It should stop .

Like this in every dept , depending on the
