Nirupama literally means someone/thing having no simile. For real, she is still away from No 1 position.

May be Mrs NirupamaRao is most powerful women, but her approach towards Pakistan is not palatable to many. She has got no business to express her wishes to have a dialogue on all issuer with that terrorist country.I don't know ,if she said under compulsions from government, since it is a political decision

Stop asking for special privileges
by Amit on Dec 10, 2010 03:05 AM  | Hide replies

When we have a female President, female head of the ruling political party and so many other women in powerful positions, why do women still need things like reservations just about everywhere, concepts of maintenance only for women (despite this being the 21st century where there are equal working opportunities), etc. I would really like to see women stop playing the victim card. These outdated concepts need to end. You are equal. Now start acting equal.

Dear friend,Do you treat your daughter and son equally?do everyone of your realtives, including those living in villages do the same thing?

Dear friend, did you, your relatives take dowry for getting married?

Women are discriminated in everything,INcluding the right to live. Please dont talk about women this way.Even today,if people know that they are having a girl, they kill the baby in the womb.

WOmen need erservations because,if parents have to send their daughters to colleges, they think about returns on their investments, thats why they educate their boys. But if a woman gets a job then she will not necessitate the need for a dowry and a subsequent ill treatment from her family members.

A woman can maintain dignity if she is given an opportunity to study, work and earn.

Well to answer your comment, I believe that sons and daughters are equal. With regards to dowry, please read up. There are more false dowry accusations than dowry itself. Female infanticide ended ages ago. Most of what you described used to happen 50 years back, and I think women need to move on, and stop demanding privileges for age old atrocities. I’ve always considered women equal. It’s just the constant demand for concessions that suggest that it is women who don’t consider themselves equal.

Dear Sri Amit ji,do you treat your father and mother equally? do you treat your brothe and sister equally?

Any woman is a very special and privileged person and needs to be treated that way, only then you can live happily and in tranquility.

Yes, I find mother and father equal. Brother and sister equal. And as far as living happily and in tranquillity, it is the responsibility of both men and women to ensure that for each other.

Maybe I exaggerated when I said 50 years back, and I apologize for that. But there have been drastic changes in the last 10-15 odd years, and many of those age old issues are really not that relevant anymore. I specifically addressed 2 issues of reservation and maintenance. They simply aren’t that relevant for the reasons mentioned above. How is dowry different from maintenance? And why are educated women still claiming maintenance rather than working?

As long as special privileges, reservations are sought, women cannot be considered for respect, equal opportunities.News about discrimination against women are 90% media hype. Today's women are spoiling the social fabric of nuclear family. Why shud there be any kind of special treatment for women for afterall they are also a human being with different physiology.

Thank you Subramanian. People need to really analyse what they are reading in the media. Read carefully and you will realise that in almost all cases, it is only the woman’s side of the story that is being reported. Most (I am not saying all) of it is just hype to sell newspapers, and create sensational stories!

I 100% agree with Amit. Men and women has different roles and responsibilities. A man can not milk a baby. It is by nature. When some one is asking whether we treat mother and father equally, the answer is either yes or otherwise loves mother more. Then do we say fathers need to cry for equality.

ms. indra nooyi of pepsi. and we know she does not work for govt unlike this bunch. an indian govt worker should be regarded as a failure unless can demonstrably outcompete a counterpart in private sector. being a mere office bearer in a govt of loyal appointees of sonia is self-defeating to be banging on drums and blowing trumpets.

I fail to understand how you can consider a woman who sells junk water for a living as powerful. What ever she has achieved is for her personal benefit. Losers like you always like to pick on government servants without having any idea what exactly these people do,

you are not very bright. i have interacted with indian embassys staff and ambassadors in past. they simply aren't upto the snuff. the hindus compete in free market in usa and compete well in that challenging environment. the work environment of indian govt work is same what the british colonialists left and which is to say very slow; about the only thing the indian govt bureucrats have added to that slowness is corruption, and one can (not you , perhpas) do the math as to how good that can be.

I may not be very bright; but definitely I am not as stupid as you; look at your English; They simply aren't up to the snuff? what ever it means; every one knows what free market theory has done to US economy; if it was so good then why US govt is pumping billions of dollars to keep all those so called big banks afloat? what is the buzzword? stimulant! that's right! get real man; who knows you might have interacted with indian embassy staff while serving cocktails in a waiter capacity;

your predjudice makes you mad, but try not to be. you are operating from crazy assumptions you choose to divine. very bright don't do that, do they? i will repeat the embassy folks are not up to snuff. if you need an explanation for my interaction, i have been an invited guest at the embassy and several times at parties where we have interacted. most of them are clueless, poorly trained, ill-mannered, relatives of some powerful guys in nai dillies, just don't belong there. they do india no good.
