There is no point in India trying to keep Kashmir at a huge monitory and human costs against the will of the majority people. The best solution would be to split the state into 2 parts, Kashmir and Jammu/Laddak. Then make an offer to Pakistan and Kasmiris to merge Kashmir and POK into an Independent nation. The administration of this nation should be jointly handled by India and Pakistan for a period of 1 year lest Pakistan invade our Kashmir and merge into it. During this period, Kashimris will come up with a constitution. Then election should be held and administration should be handed over to the winning party.
If we have a cancer in a part, better to use surgery so that it will not damage the entire body.
They firmly believe that if Islamic rule is established, all there problems will be solved, what they don’t understand is that sometimes what you think as a solution, might be the root cause of problems.
It requires multiple dimensional approach to solve the issue, first is education, try to convince the people that although democracy may seem to be corrupt system but if all of us try to contribute positively then it could become the best system. It’s the only system of governance which evolves itself by the feedback of the people being governed, through their votes and views.

Then there are two approaches which might work if put together in a balanced and controlled manner.

Salim bhai if you are a Kashmiri, can you talk to Kasmiri Pandits and check what do they want. They are also as Kasmiri as you are and all Muslims are. Their only "fault" is they are HINDUs. I have never seen any article written by a Muslim journalist who depicts state of Kashmiri Pundits. All the articles written by Muslim journalists (Born Muslims like Salim bhai, and by behaviour like Sheela Bhatt) are pro-agitators. Fortunately for the protestors, and unfortunately for Indian Democracy, Kashmir has been ruled by 3 generations of Abdullah family, and by other Muslims like Mufti Mofd Sayeeed or Ghualm Nabi Azhad, What have they done for the valley ? Nothing. Is this your standard story for I- Day to create an impression that Muslims in India are suppressed ? Rather than creating anti India propaganda, have you event tried to talk to the protestors what do they want ? They want to go with Pakistan ? Even Muslims who went to Pakistan during Pakistan are called Muhajirs (Alien) after 60 years. Do the want Azadi ? Every nation has to think about Economy, and defence. What would be their economy ? This is the result of the pagal nehru on his emotional decisions on this state. Instaed of treating the state like any other, they brought Art 370 and alienated the people further
The PM should tell Kashmiris that Kashmir seperating from India it out of question and will never happen. If the Kashmiris keep insisting on seperation then their lives will be miserable forever. If they realize that then alternative solutions will be easier to pursue.
What's this rubbish statement "The need of the hour is for India to connect with Kashmiris, emotionally connect with them". Who are Kashmiris ? Are they not Indians. Are India and Kashmir two separate entities. Why do such rubbish articles and words get published. Which nationality do Kashmiris belong to who treat India as a different entity ? Kashmir is J&K including Jammu, Leh, Ladakh, Siachen, POK and Aksai Chin. The people who treat themselves as aloof from India are in a small section of the valley propagated by ISI and Pakistan.
I feel So many problems in India are coming even after 60 years of independence is because India has been hijacked and taken over by few vested interests. These vested interests dictate democracy (with money power),policies etc.,. Individual rights are being crushed under huge security blanket. Its not all bad to listen to what people are trying to say. Whats wrong in giving more autonomy to every state and region for that matter. Probably its better we go back to times where small regions were ruled by kings. Eventhough they might had absolute power I am sure they were not so corrupt and greedy as modern day politicians. Kings used to rule with certain sense of dharma which is totally lacking now a days.
My earnest apeal to Kashmiris is don't resort to violence. Take back the Kashmiri pandits who are part of you. Restore the Kahmiriat which was and is above above narrow religious interpretation. Lastly don't fall into the trap of religous people because you will be the ultimate losers.
Jammu & kashmir was a princely state who say that JK is an intergal part of india then what are there ten lakh indian troops doing. india have forcefully occupied it & continelously suppresing any uprising there with brute force. Open eyes & see the ground reality U sick minded indians. Jk neither was nor it will be part of india. wake up & get out from JK.

If going back to the history,(indian continent:included Pakistan,Burma,Sri Lanka,whole of Bengal and present boundaries of India,Area forcibally captured by china and Pakistan,Dear just imagine by just for fewer narrow minded illogical interests,INDIA would have been that GREAT,so,think of the Indian Diversity of languages ,culture,oneness,geography all in one with Poliical,religious,economical independence ,Kashmir being ruled by kasmiries,tamilnadoo by Tamilians,it is definitly Great.May the ALMIGHTY ALLAH showers HIS kindness over all of us ,and PEACE prevails over HEAVINLY KASHMIR.LOT OF LOVE TO ONE And ALL.
