Gandhi's contribution to India
by jet on Feb 12, 2009 04:27 AM  | Hide replies

The biggest contribution of Gandhi is , he made majority indians as impotent meek people. we taught our kids to go non-violent way and show other cheek, evry small country around india kicks our a55. Terrorists attack and kill indians when ever they want and where ever they want, we cry, then get used to it and continue our lives. Wah re Gandhi..

Gandhi's work helped illegitimize violence. If you give an eye for an eye, it makes the world go blind. Look at LTTE, they started out as "protesting" violence against Tamils, but now they have started butchering people indiscriminately, and earned the label of terrorists. If you have instincts to protect others, enlist in the army, ok! Dont be an armchair critic.

"If you give an eye for an eye, it makes the world go blind"
But I would say "If you give an eye for an eye it can be transplanted into a blind person and he/she can see"
Because of this ideology we ar being attacked by the weakest nations such as Pakistan.
GOOD LUCK INDIA, KEEP OFFERING THE OTHER CHEEK.
AND DON'T FORGET YOU HAVE TWO MORE CHEEKS ON YOUR BOTTOM.

Sheetal, the only problem with today's world is they depend on violence and killing to silence other people. It's impatient people all over the world that causes problems. The problems Gandhi faced during his time are different than the ones now. Gandhi faced threats from a foreign government (Brits were governing India). Pakistan issue is different. Go for targeted attacks in pakistan, targeting only terrorists. Israel attacked Gaza and the civilians died. Everybody started hating on them. This is what the islamic terrorists are banking on. Sorry, be smart!
Then you wont have to show the bottom 2 cheeks! Illegitimize all sorts of violence. Don't make concessions of any sort! There's nothing called rightful violence.

No one says or wants to kill civilians, but unfortunately the ammunition does not discriminate, civilian casualties are part of the war and in war all is justified.

Look at Srilanka, they crushed the LTTE like any thing, They did not give away inch of their land. Be like a US which kicked out Taliban for 911, be like Israel which went out on a war for 2 soldiers.

yes, so what. what does that have to do with gandhi? He wasn't the best at everything, but there were many who admired his courage to stand up to the Brits, with nothing on him, except his loincloth...That didn't make him a weakling. If the indians are weak, it's their fault. Do you stand up to corruption, bribes, and nonsense in daily life. If you don't you have no business criticising gandhi!

And the US never kicked out Taliban, ok. They invaded Iraq and destroyed that country as well as their own economy. I don't know where you get your info from, jet. Must be from "Crazytown".

Martin Luther King vs Mahatma Gandhi
by UsualSuspect on Feb 12, 2009 03:47 AM  | Hide replies

Gandhi showed a majority of Indians a path of non-violence to get freedom from British. An unfortunate side-effect was that a whole generation of Indians became meek and docile.

MLK led the oppressed Black minority in US along the non-violent path to put an end to discrimination.
