One quick quedtion for you. Are you an Indian CITIZEN? If yes, then yes, we should be incensed about your experience. If not, then its an American problem. Its got nothing to do with India. Of course, in the name of universal justice, we should be concerned. But when such things happen to Indian citizens, then the matter becomes very personal - as I am sure you can appreciate. Now, having said that, I am not suggesting that the SRK merits as much attention as it has. I am sure 100s of cases like his have been and are being experienced by Indians (and others) traveling to America. I also can understand the circumstances under which the Americans would be creating laws and procedures like the ones experienced by SRK (and others). My point is that we, India that is, should institute similar protocols - like how Brazil did immediately post 9/11.
Again, I am truly appalled at your experience, but the degree to which I would be engaged with it would be contingent on how you answer the question I posed to you at the outset.

You are a porki or a musslim. Every Indian is respected in every state. South Indians are more respected than northies within north india. And in UP our family has been friends of southIndians there for ages. So find another way to ooze out mussleempanaa. Life in USA is like glass. stop demonizing the greatest country on earth..each and every race nationality language are present in US..peole come here penniless like the Bangladesh DV lotter visa getters and their lives are transformed in this great country..the US was not like this pre 911..indeed it had no concept of screening or security..the ports were all open..but thanks to Islamic terror that is history..the US has every reason to protect trillions of dollars in investments plus the lives of its citizens..The US is not India...it does most things right..if the US has not been attacked since 911 it must hv done things right...same cannot be said of India.

He was arrested with a wrong warrant, so obviously wrong that the judge dismissed it offhand. Does that say something?
If Mr. Shankar is so distraught about life in the US, what is he doing there? Instead of working in A central Connecticut State University, why does he not teach in an Indian state university?

Very well said Suneil..the academic environment in India is filled with laid back, frustrated, prejudiced people with king-size egos..the UGC thinks its a big boss of Indian education who wants to police the credibility of prospective academicians through a stupid exam called NET just to prevent recruitment as much as possible . They think that a 3-4 hrs competitive exam will make a candidate a competent teacher or a researcher and thus monitor standards..how moronic!!! Pay packages in most Indian Universities are still poor compared to others even after the recent Pay revision.. many NET and SLET qualified "academic prodigies" are still holding part-time jobs in many places across the country with no signs of conversion to a full-time job. Those NET or SLET qualified " academic prodigies" who are lucky to get full-time jobs in the universities and colleges have a great time throughout their career with no effective performance appraisal and no student feedback on the quality and effectiveness of teaching. These "academic prodigies" are not made to go through any kind of training in respect of effective teaching and learning. The only thing they have to do is finish PhD, publish some papers, supervise some thesis masters/PhD and get promotions. So sad and dissapointing

Oh yeah. I forgot India is the most literate country in the world and teaching everyone how to be proficient in corruption, dishonesty, lack of civic sense and so on. Look at your pants first before pointing to other's groins.
I don't believe SRK gets questioned for 66 mins and these stories stay in the headlines. The police procedures in India are from the medieval times and innocent and guilty people get tortured everyday and this media never raises an eyebrow. Countless more people are being tortured everyday by own people and the news is SRK had to spend 66 mins at the airport. This is shameless
