This heartshaking story was shown on a news channel not long ago. It was brought to notice of ministers ( I don't remember who) and they were distressed to learn this. This was a matter of utmost priorty to them. But obviously not as much a priorty as looking after themselves.

How sacred can this be?
by jaideep shirali on May 15, 2007 07:10 PM  | Hide replies

After reading this article, one can only say that it is far better to cremate one's child and immerse his ashes in some cleaner water. However heartrending this may actually be, it is far better than burial near water that stinks from filth and callousness.

People have to accept the use of Electric Crematorioums
by May Day on May 15, 2007 07:05 PM  | Hide replies

We all know that India is bursting at it's seams with land being a scarce commodity. So it is prudent that people who are breaved in the Big cities start using the elsctric crematorium which is much much better than stand knee deep in a stinking pool of sewage and snatching the last ounce of dignity from a Dead soul. Though tradition and custom in some faiths ask for a burial it is imperative that people should relize that the times we live in have changed and we need to go with the tide.

Kudos Rediff for bring out this to our notice.
by Anand Sampath on May 15, 2007 06:56 PM  | Hide replies

It is heartrendering to read about the agony that Pallavi and Saurov had to undergo. The pain, the agony is imaginable. My heart felt condolences to both of them and our prayers are with them for the innocent soul rests in peace.

In a country, which talks of religion, offering prayers for the dead for 13 days and beyond, we can not find a place for them to rest in eternal peace. Pity.

We talk about modernization but hide behind a false curtain of total disorganization and no respect for fellow human beings-young,old,alive or departed.

Rediff should bring out such news for more public awareness and time that some of the News Channel covered it too.

This news was initially covered in NDTV a month ago. They showed it repeatedly and infact now the Govt has decided to change a few things. Hopefully things change and The dead can be buried with full respect.

What a Plight - will the authorities realise
by Truth on May 15, 2007 06:45 PM

What a bad plight. Will the authorities realise will their eyes open. Rediff this is the area you need to concentrate, than bollywood. Get into investigated journalism. write the name of the Dept responsible. the Name of officer responsible and the Minister giving their telephone numbers Mobile if possible. So that people can call them. If 1000 calls go they will come to their sense.

However, it is people to be blamed. Do we question them, do we protest this days. We never do anything but just crib and complaint among ourselves
