RIJOE GEORGE
DEAR PARENTS AND TEACHERS
by RIJOE GEORGE on Dec 13, 2007 03:37 PM

All of us are more interested in raising up the children in best of the schools and colleges "of course it is not a sin " but moral values have to be tought or communicated to children.Parents If they have communicated well about moral values will never have such problem.
We should try and talk to our children every day and understand their problems and difficulties that they go through everyday.Every child in modern day is facing a problem which vary from one to an other,Some have problems in learning, some in acceptance , some in lisening , some in reading ,and some in handling emotion like ,anger ,fear , joy .We as parents should understand what they want and communicate it to them.

Techers on the other hand have to tech moral values and disiplines in the way kids will understand,And report to parents in case of any misbehaviour.

Lets talk about cause, not symptoms
by Rahul Mishra on Dec 12, 2007 03:33 PM  | Hide replies

This incidence is just a symptom of the bigger problem of our society- a cultural crisis.

One problem is media- that shows violence, sex and agression day in and day out, and then sheds crocodile's tears when such incidences.

Our society no longer values values of kindness, honesty and simplicity. To be shrewd, dishonest and manipulative is being 'cool' for new generation and the parents support them in this.

Teachers- the foundation of any society, the mould in which the future of any country takes shape- are the most neglected, least paid and least respected lot. Ask any bright student-s/he wants to be MBA or Software engineer- no one wants to be a teacher. And why should they, when no one respects teachers, they are not paid well?

Consequently, many of the teachers are actually less qualified people who could not make it to better things in life. They are unable to teach well, forget about inculcating virtues in today's children.

And last but not the least, are the politicians like Arjun Singh and Ambumani Ramdoss, whose only contribution to the educational institute of the country is controversy, maligning and downgrading, be it IIT, IIM or AIIMS. These buggers have all the time in life to o tamasha for non issues, but rarely find time, efforts and resources to bring primary education in order.

Our country has surely gone to the dogs, and this is just the beginning. Imagine after 25 years when these kids grow up, what will happen to India?

Well All is to blame those parents who try to save their child at their every wrong doing. Sending the child to a good educational institute in futile unless and until you are able to develop right values in him and the right values are develpoed from the home.

Yoga, Meditation!
by Catherine Fernandes on Dec 11, 2007 10:57 PM  | Hide replies

I read one of the messages that says Yoga, Meditation should be recommended in schools and something about Christians and Muslims should also adopt it. Something to do about anger management. No problem there? I am Christian and my children go to a private school run by Gujarati's where Yoga is part of the curriculum. Yet, when my children report incidents that happen in school I wonder what is wrong with teachers today. My daughter a natural runner lost in the heats, when she told the teacher that while running two girl deliberately tripped her the teacher dismissed it, saying that's ok. When my son heard her narrating the incident to me, he mentioned the same thing happened to him the last year and the teacher told him that he should have also done the same! I can give you a hundred other instances. I wonder if bringing up these issues with the teachers will prove deterimental to my children. Because what bothers me is not that they were not selected, but the differences in what I teach them at home and how over-worked and indifferent teachers at school react to them.

I agree, but the best part is, your kids will understand what is right and what is wrong. Now they know what not to do. Yes there two sides to the coin, one can get aggravated and do what his friends did, or understand, be responsible and learn the right thing to do. There some thing to learn in every good and bad thing, in one one learns how to be and in the other how not to. Anyway, given that your kid is a natural runner, he will defenitely shine, may be a bit late, but surely as a gentleman or lady. Good luck to them.

This incident should be taken as one and only one of its kind. We shouldn't start frisking all the students nor should impose yoga or meditation in schools. If its a part of curriculam, let it be. Yoga doesn't have any religion. Hence, should not be linked with any religion. Any human being can do yoga and its useful. However, no one can make sure that a student doing yoga may not bring a gun in future. Thats not the remedy. This is the new generation!!!!!!!!!

Catherine, that is just a difference in parenting styles and values you imbibe in your kids. It is not a new or Indian concept. People who break the rules and do what we perceive to be "wrong" always gain in the short term.
In the long term, I am not sure, maybe sometimes they do gain. That is where all the concepts of religion come in. The Gita talking about how you will be born as a dog or whatever, I am not sure what the equivalent in the bible is, but I am sure there is sufficient invisible punishment for sin.
Everywhere, there are people who believe the best way to get ahead is to push others down and there are people who refuse to do wrong and are ready to suffer for it. Just depends on how you want your kids to grow up.

It doesn't happen in south
by Rinesh Kumar on Dec 11, 2007 10:51 PM  | Hide replies

My dear friends, you have to be in south to experience this. Again North Indian hypocricy is speaking in your words. And tell me how many of you are alcually from Delhi. you too are from some other states or regions. I'm from Delhi for past 10 generation and if not more.
The avarage Chennai person is much better than an average Delhiite. In Delhi emppty people flank wealth that belongs to bnaks. Here it blongs to people to whom the banks belong.
Food - go to a Delhi restaurant ( i've been doing it since my childhood for past 30 years) and the waiter will just come over your shoulder showing his superiority. Here in south at least humbleness is there. Visti south first guys then talk rubbish about the place don't be too ramish about the place.

YOu are right Mr. Rinesh Kumar. As you go down from North to South the cultural Gap widens happening to be more positive towards south. In north people are more prone for short cuts and fast money rather than hard work. there seems to be very less value for humans as one goes towards north. people in south are more sincere and humble towards other humans. me being a western indian the difference is quite apparant.

Rinesh,

The comparison between north and south is uncalled for .. Even in Diversity lets.. try to be united .. and not divide and show superiority ... We are all Indians ...

Coming back to the issue .. it is very shameful .. and the father who's revolver was used should also be equally punished or more along with the kids because its due to his carelessness that this has happened ...

Kids can get easily influenced by watching movies and stuff .. but it is the parents who need to keep a proper check ..

Nothing will happen
by Narendran kumar on Dec 11, 2007 10:37 PM

That is true. The parents of the killer boys must be having some strong background and they will find all the ways to come out of it very soon. The School management will try every possible way to keep parents who lost their son to keep their mouth shut. The police will have their pockets filled and prolong the case in a boring way so the media will turn towards other news. Finally, we all will forget this if some thing interestingly happens. India is growing in economy but value of human life in india is going downwards. Everyone wants to enjoy by whatsoever means they can. Delhi being the capital showing the way how the rest of the country should behave, from DPS scandal; blueline bus killings; young ladies working in bar; eve teasing; duplicate market; and so on. Jai hind. Long live India.

HOW ABOUT MAKING YOGA/MEDITATION COMPULSORY IN SCHOOLS?
by MGR Fan on Dec 11, 2007 10:28 PM  | Hide replies

Anger control is very important espically in today's situation when people get stressed up easily.

Yoga and Meditation are good ways to suppress anger. Yoga and Meditation have nothing to do with hinduism as a religion, it is an ancient Indian practise that helps to bring mind control.

All Indians(incl Muslims and Christians) should consider making Yoga and Meditation part of School curriculum.

Good idea. Lets allow only ashrams and monastries in the country, no more "western" style schools. Maybe a few madrasas too, they teach meditation too.

How about one learns to read between the lines ? There is a difference between saying "making a part of" and "only the stuff thought". Grow up! No one is bullying your Modern science, even researchers in Stanford are studying the mind control practiced by The Budhist Monks. Why is always that people who choose offbeaten track want the support and agreement of others ? coz you don't trust what you are doing yourself ? Anshu, I see you have some good comments in these discussions, but wait, you might want to read what he said again. No harm there. This is not saffronizing the education, but just passifying the mind.

It just sounds weird in the context of current news items AND the inclusion of the "(incl Muslims and Christians)" part. I mean the world "All Indians" should not need any additional qualifications.
Excuse me if I thought the poster had a larger agenda than just anger management.

Now, Had you just made this point, I would have celebrated it. Celebrated that what you said was very much secular, some thing my country stands for. I am happy that we wish to improvise on what he had to say and look beyond all the invisible loadings it might / could otherwise have. Thanks much! Let me add, there always something about this in all religious texts, may be we just need it as philosophical studies course, than on the name of any holy book or religion.

by Jeevan on Dec 11, 2007 10:14 PM  | Hide replies

My sincere condolence to both the parent. Let all mighty give strength to both the parents. The teenage is most delicate period of our life. More awareness and education is need during this time also a good support from parents. A very good and friendly relation with the kids help so he/she will be free to discuss there problem with us.

As many blaming for western influence according to me the actual problem is not that our moral values are declining. It I not of becoming more western we have lost our consideration for the fellow citizen. Until now we were suppressed and threatened so the crime rate is was less. Now anyone can get way with out punishment if they have right political contacts. This breed more criminal. We need a more robust policing and justice system. This will not happen in India soon so be prepared for the worst to come. In developed county anyone who do wrong will be rightly and timely punished with out looking at his or his dad status.

well said. But your opinion about the developed word, hmm.. I doubt it. Anywhere ... law is / was manipulated by power. Power, well, some places its money, some contacts and power due to position and very many others in several other cases. This is called exploitation, of system, conscience of the common man and of course the Law.

It is a trait of mankind, to compare, but again to achieve it with minimum effort.

That is the food there boy. Andhra has spicy food, so does parts of Rajasthan. Gujarat has sweet food, Delhi has coloured food, Kerala has coconut food ... each place is different, it is not "bad", it is different.

Living there, I guess you need to learn to appreciate it.

The average Chennai person or Tamilian is quite unlike the DMK types that you hear in news.

He may be dark skinned and may be emotional about Rajnikanth, but he is 100% god fearing and totally religious and spiritual and deeply believes in Hardwork and is not jealous of other people's wealth.

This is true of many other state people, but the difference is that the elite in states like Delhi have abandoned the Indian culture and got over westernised
