I found it amusing that a Ballistic missile is fired in the air and there are planes flying closeby.Obviosly ISRO would not be so stupid to shoot things in the same altitude or flight paths. But I cannot imagine a scenario where I am flying and in the window I see a missile crusing past.Very Funny

Think twice before giving statement like that. Testing missile is not like testing your washing machine.
If what is written is true, our Indian govt should apologize to both the airways and especially Indonesian govt. If we behave as if we are super powers and don't give due respect to other nations, it will cost dearly in future. Hence this will be a test for the attitude of the Indian Govt.
Whether or not the Indian govt apologizes, as an Indian I sincerely apologize to the Indonesian govt and the passengers of both the airways.

The present UPA government will certainly apologize to Indonesia and give some compensation also. Holy cow, there are 400 muslims in that flight. Howe come the UPA not use this opportunity to show how much they love the umma.

There are some foolish ppl reading Rediff, who never miss an opportunity to raise issues like Hindu,Muslim, Christian....South Indian/North Indian .... They don't understand that by tdoing this they are diverting from real issues...
Kindly consider the following points 1. Singapore-Tiruchirappalli-Chennai flight landed in Tiruchirapalli at 6.30 pm on Thursday, over seven hours behind schedule,.... the plane resumed its journey four hours later (still 03 hrs behind schedule) 2. ...defence officials advised the pilot to take a diversion for safety reasons in view of the Agni test.(probably to alert him & change the track well in time) 3. ...there was no prior information about the test (is it stratigally possible before conducting the test...?)

Maybe the Indians informed and the Indonasians forgot and screwed up! That is more likely.

Such tests are not conducted by informing some 150 countries around the world whoes airlines may be flying over Bay of Bengal. All that the DRDO can do is alert the airlines coming in the way well in advance and it did the same. Now as a Govt India should be well prepared to handle any fallout of such things if et all any body complains. And if et all Indonesia complains the handling the situation by UPA govt will show its attitude. After all I give full marks to BJP/NDA govt for handling tremedous pressure after a nuke test. This missile test is nothing compared to that. I dont want to jump to any conclusion as how UPA will handle this. I'm eagerly waiting.

I do agree with you this is not all possible without informing the neighboring country%u2019s ATR.
Instead to having the proud all are talking nonsense like India will apologies to Indonesian govt... Same
Indian authorities have always been courteous enough to advise civilian flights about the tests. Somewhere some slip up might have happened or simply some overseas ATCs might not have taken enough notice in warning the pilots and conveniently blame India. Similar incidents have happened across Atlantic and Indian ocean and the current incident is blown out of proportion.
Here I see people talking about patrotism , what if your own family is there in the plane and the unfotunate incident due to the fault of AGNI missile team happens . You cant be patriotic at that time . Be realistic and dont just show raw emotions . We all know how patriotic are indians when it comes to paying taxes and electricity bills. Why does patrotism only comes at time of missile tests and Cricket matches .

We are so patriotic that we name our airlines after English name, Air India, Indian Airlines. Look at Indonesian airlines, it is named as GARUDA. Can you imagine it? We Indians have forgot these names which are ours.

If you name it in Hindi the south does not like it and you have to come up with a name that has includes all the major Indian languages.

Bcos we dont't have any way of showing it that all for spot indian know only cricket no other sport can equal that that all
It is indeed a miraculous escape for those on board Air India and Garuda. The authorities should ensure the safety of civilians and others concerned while undertaking such vulnerable tests. No body can do anything after the worse happened.

It may not be that miraculous as we are making out after reading this article... Just that in aviation industry the factor of saftey to be maintained will be very high and hence they might have cancelled the flights... For what I think about the factor of saftey in aviation industry, the flights may be atleast 100 miles away from the path of the missile...
