Equality before law
by Silent_Invader on Aug 10, 2004 09:57 PM

Dhananjay must be spared on a simple principle of Humility. There would be so many other criminals in this country who must be moving free after commiting severly heinous crimes. Most of them might have even escaped the eyes of Law. Now, if the law cannot assure equal punishment to all the criminals then its severest punishment should not be capital punishment. It should humbly accept its inadequacy and stop passing judgements of capital punishment.

so much for a civilized society
by Ranjan on Aug 10, 2004 09:26 PM

And still we claim that we are a civilized society. Big people get away with 20 rapes. A person who will never be danger to the society if kept in jail is hanged. All hail human civilization.

by nilanjan dutta on Aug 10, 2004 09:24 PM

he has got the most worst punishment so far ..which is nothing but a death fear and i guess which has a deep impact to any human.

2ndly the person already served a 14 years with this and he should not hang any more .

This my personal opinion ..

Nilanjan

I beg the media not to make it a "celebrity" stuff. This extraordinary slide show of Indian Justice has brought pains to both the parties. The poor girl and his family and , not showing any sympathy towards the convict,I strongly object the delays which have pains to the family of Dhananjoy as well.Yes , we all have a right to file repeated petitions, but there should be any limit.Whats the use of such sentence , when no true justice is delivered in my view.

Well you are right. That man got his punishment but a death sentence will set an example for others and a person will think twice before committing a crime like that. Anyways, it's a dead topic now.

what about others?
by vijay kumar on Aug 10, 2004 09:16 PM

If Dhanajoy has to be hanged then what about others who have committed the same crime and are trying to escape with political influence ?
i know it is the right punishment.
But telling a death in advance to others is really hurting.
Dhanajoy is just a drop of a ocean.

Editing!!

Not pertaining to this article in particular, there are myriad of grammatical and spelling mistakes in almost all the articles I have read on rediff.com. Does rediff not employ an editor or someone who checks these articles before they are published???

hanging barbaric
by Ranbir on Aug 10, 2004 08:14 PM

If hanging is practiced as deterrant for crime then it has failed. Down the ages crimes were committed and are still committed. Hanging or death penalities have been practiced in every society of the world but crimes continue to be committed. stuffing out life does not achieve any thing except emotional satisfaction to dear ones of the victim. On the other hand it cause immense suffering to dependents of the perpetrator. we can not give life so we have no right to take away life. Let this be the domain of God. He truly know how to punish!

This has shocked me to an unimmagianble etent. I ahve no sympathy over Dhanajoy; but I am against the way he has been facing death. In no way it can be justfied. our constitution can be amended for bringing hanging a permanent end. Except in some countries,I believe,no where in teh world it would have been justified. Killing against killing does not make any sense. A wrong message will be sent to the society. Down with dhanajoy, long live his spirit1
