In the present time, the law's reach is very much limited to the poor. Dhananjoy (surely he's act was to be condemned) could not afford a high-paid lawyer as most of the affluent do and get away from similar, if not more atrocious crime. The law finally got hold of one who was handicapped in this regard and successfully executed him.
Yes, the culprit must be punished or else we cannont noose crime in the society. No doubt , Dhananjoy has comitted crime and he should be punished . But dear friends let me know who is the actual criminal Dhananjoy or administrative system of our country . 14 long years in jail was not spent as a period of punishment by a convicted criminal but a period spent to get the verdict. This is too much.If he had to be hanged , he should have been hanged as soon as the crime was proved i.e 14 years back. 14 years of death fear is more than a hanging . One HANG will ultimately hang his dependants and ultimately kill them too. This way we cannot set up an example. .Dhananjoy's Hanging has become a issue of celeberation.Every one is busy in the preperation right from state government down to the hang man. Hang man too has become a hero of the country . Now , every one knows him by name.Big people get away with dozen rapes. A person who will never be danger to the society if kept in jail is hanged. WE ARE KILLERS We are going turn his dependants into orphans on other hand we try to provide helping hands to the orphans. RIDICULOUS
It is Unfortunate that Justice was given after 15 years. I pity our Judiciary for this. After this long delay of 15 years, he should have been sentenced to Life Imprisonement or should have been hanged within one year of his conviction.
What the supreme court should answer is even after this much of delay why was a hanging insisted. With the track record of the number of people hanged in our country, it looks as though such crimes do not occur at all in this country. Are no killers and rapist serving terms in any jail in our whole country? I am sure there should be even more worst criminals hanging out there. Why are they all not hanged.
Pronouncing the death sentence to the victim before the actual hanging itself would have taken the life out of him. Though this type of capital punishment are for the other who do not commmit the same type of henious crimes, I wish he had the rigourous imprisonment for 14 yearsor solitary confinement to atleast make him do something good before he dies. Definitely he deserves but what abt the 1000's of other criminals who hav commited more henious crimes & r scott-free.That means in INDIA Money Matters. He faced this fate coz he hails frm a poor family.Law makers n deciders am I right????Moreover is it required that the person be hanged ??Cant he be given some Cyanide without being informed of the date & time.If the law makers cant standardize and equally treat crimes and criminals they dont have any right to give such punishment to the poor, powerless & underpriviledged.Really those people lack ethics and seem to have stopped reading newspapers regarding the extent of crime in INDIA.Else every day there would have been a person being given capital punishment or even more than that.Do they think this will reduce crime??No infact people will be more instigated becoz of the inequality in giving punishment..
Hello, Even though what Dhanonjoy Chatterjee has done is unpardonable and he deserves what he is headed towards, the way the students of Hetal's school have been roped in by the media, the school and its principal is not at all good for their purile minds. What do they understand about death penalty and its implications and the consequences thereof. We live in a civilised society and making hay about one's death is no example of ones moral standing, not the least by students so young as in Hetal's school. And the principal should not be involving the students in all this. -Debashis Banerjee
It the judiaciary that decides what punishment should be given to the convict. They study and discuss merits in the case. The prcedure of hanging must be in the system as this gives a lesson to people in society. My concern is with the family of Dhananjoy what crime have they committed and why are they being punished for the crime that they have not done. As there are only 55 cases of hanging till now in independent India. The government should take care of their families. In this case the justice is delayed therefore people do not fear when thinking to commit such crime. Can we think over this issue.
Definately such people should be hung but then why this delay of 14 years. Its not fair for the convict. Moreover what is the law doing to tons of other rapists and murderers who are out on bail. If Dhananjoy then why not the others too. I sympathise with the families of both Hetal Parkeh as well as Dhananjoy. They are suffering the most.
Though Dhananjoy did a mistake, but by considering his family , why can't avoid hanging and only punish (jail) for few years. This also would be a chance to him to live properly and not to repeat. If it repeats, next time can be given hanging with immediate effect and without any more delays.
