Game of portraits
by Manoj Yadav on Mar 05, 2003 04:12 PM

Hi,
While all our wings left or right are busy in exploiting the issue of portrait of Savarkar, one thing has been ignored. Political parties are doing it for electoral gains but atleast the president is supposed to do fair play. There have been occasions when presidents have raised objections in the most civilized way but our new president seems to have different priorities.

Kind regards
Manoj

veer savarkar
by sathyanath on Mar 05, 2003 03:52 PM

opening a picture of veer savarkar is in no way that
important.surely, savarkar is not above board not-
withstanding his sacrifices. Hindu way of life and
Hindu view of life are obsolete in todays world.
A religon that said na stri swathantra and apartheid
against the dalit. BJP think tank- if it has any,
is obsolete as Hinduism itself.
Renewing Hindutva, Ayodya temple, Placing Savarkars
photograph in Parliament are part of the BJP game
to raise controveries to hide its sell out of PSUs
labour rights, consumer rights, and patroniosing
corporate criminals.

Insult to our intelligence
by Monika on Mar 05, 2003 03:12 PM

This article about Veer Savarkar is insulting to our intelligence. You wish us to believe that the person who was considered so dangerous by the British authorities right from his student days , jumped into the sea at Marseilles and tried to escape, wrote such moving poems as Ne majsi ne..parat martubhimi la broke down due to physical torture in the Andaman jail? All his life he had to face mental torture (which by the way is more painful than physical torture) due to his peers and fellow freedom-fighters not understanding or deliberately misinterpreting his ideology and actions. There is no greater torture to a great intellectual person and a honest soul than to be mis-understood by his own people. But still, till the very end, Veer Savarkar did not give up his fight ; may it be against the British , the obsolete and unjust Hindu rituals at the time or his differences of opinion with Mahatma Gandhis methods. All are aware of the fact of his appeal to the British Govt. being a tactical move to get back to India and contributing to the freedom struggle in his own way. There is no logic of going round and round discussing the same point and judging an person by an isolated action of his. Such tendency shows a bias and a stubborn decision to malign the person at any cost. What would be the outcome if we do so for Nehru and Gandhi also?

Savarkar is the father of all revolutionaries. Who is he to comment such a great man?? What did this prof do to the country?? Then how can he make such idiotic remarks on Savarkar?? He is not just unfit as a historian/prof but as an Indian itself. Down down leftists. All of u GTH.

I agree to Amar,

What authority does he have to pass comments about Veer savarkar? I have never even heard his name before.

And speaking of cowardice and wrong practices, I think Savarkar rightly followed the golden rule of "discrition is thge better part of valour", but he did strike back each and every time possible.

Savarkar

This is utter blasphemy of one of the greatest leaders, we (except few like great historian Bipin Chandra) have ever proclaimed in our lives.

Today, We live in a freed country once fought for, by men like Veer Savarkar. The least Bipin Chandra can do is cherish what these leaders gave us selflessly. Bipin Chandra finds it hard to fathom. He weeps for Secularism and he curses Veer Savarkar. He has that luxury. He has the luxury of not knowing and savoring what Savarkar did for us. Honor, loyalty, freedom... Savarkar used these words as the backbone to a life spent defending our nation. Bipin is pro in using them as a punchline. I think nobody has neither the time nor the inclination to care to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom people like Savarkar provided, then questions the manner in which they provided it. I'd prefer Bipin just said thank you to them and went on his way. Is it worth to give a damn to what he thinks he is entitled to?

Vinayak Damodar Savarkar

First of all I want to congratulate the BJP government for doing what should have been done years ago. Mr Bipin chandra's article was not only one sided but too biased. True that he was supposed to write an article which proves that Veer Savarkar is not to be considered as a role model, but the way he has portrayed Savarkar is not only surprising but redicuous. The article conveys that Savarkar was not only headstrong and fanatic (in hindu/muslim issues) but cunning/shrewd who just thought of himself and instead of fighting, gave up at many places where he could not stand up, he did not have a perticular direction and let himself bend as the situation, he was not a fighter etc. The auther should really study Savarkar's character, work first (without being biases coz nobody is perfect) and then dare to make such comments.
