Savarakar is a Role Model
by sunil on Mar 07, 2003 08:32 AM  | Hide replies

Who is this Bipan Chandra man? He is not aware of the sacrifices, and the activities done by Veer Savarkar. He has no right to talk about Veer Savarkar. He is writing/saying this just because he is protesting BJP's decision. I am sure if it is not BJP proposition, he (Chandra) would not have had said like this.
Poor thing he is also talking about 'Hindutva', which he himself is not clear about.
I would say this is just a Pathetic article...

Sunil, an Indian

Bipan Chandra, like many communist will hide if the role of their ideology was brought forward during freedom struggle. These marxist have destroyed west bengal( they will dispute that too) and they should know whenever they point one finger to anybody the other three fingers points to them.

What a historian
by Karthik on Mar 06, 2003 03:51 PM

I am really ashamed to see such historians in our country. Present Indian history is already twisted, these people are twisting it more.

'Savarkar cannot be a role model'
by Vispi Jokhi on Mar 05, 2003 10:40 PM

I think that as always we are wasting our time in this irrelevant debate. The concept of Hindutva as a concept of exclusion rather than inclusion is certainly not acceptable to the Indian masses. Savarkar was a controversial figure and I do not doubt that even though he was ideologically opposed to Gandhi and may have indirectly led to his assassination, he was a patriot. As many persons he may have made certain errors of judgement and adopted unacceptable means. I think if he is worthy of respect for his role in the freedom struggle he must be given his due and an appropriate place found for him in the parliament. We will be disrespecting him and even Gandhi if we make this an issue for ploticking. Let people judge the right and wrong of his ideology. In an age where a mass murderer gets re-elected as a CM in a democracy installing a portrait of Savarkar is likely to cause far less damage to our polity.

rolemodel?
by vasudev on Mar 05, 2003 08:23 PM

Historians have always distorted facts to please the rulers.Nehru was praised even he sold out to China.
Indian historian have never reported truth about
Nehrus role in seducing Edwina Mountbatten.and her role on spying other congress leader .
They should revisit recently released British Government papers for public.People in India will change their opinion on Nehru.

Bipin Chandra on Savarkar's apology
by Arvind Lavakare on Mar 05, 2003 06:25 PM

Will your interviewer check on the following please and thereafter confront Bipin Chandra ?
(i) On April 13, 1942, each of the 16 Communists under detention by the British wrote a leter of apology for their opposition to India's involvement in the Second World war against the Nazi axis.An inquiry was conducted by ttwo British offiucial before the detainees were released on promise of good behaviour. Was that act a role model for the other Communists?
(ii) At its Bombay convention held between May 23 and June 1, 1943, the Communist Party passed a resolution supporting the Muslim League's demand for Pakistan. Was that act in any way different from the two-
nation theory being denouncedby the Left?
(iii)File No 7/15/42-Pol(1) available in the National Archives contains a confidential memorandum (of more than 100 pages) submitted by CPI Secretary P.C.Joshi to the British Government narrating the role the party played in exposing the "fifth columnists". And who were thos alleged fifth columnists? Here are some: Ram Manohar Lohia, Jai Prakas Narain and Achut Patwardhan. Was that a role model for the behaviour of Communist cadres?
(iv) Savarkar was among those who supported the Congress resolution of "Quit India" but he said: ""Quit India, yes, but not "Split India" So was Savarkar in favour of two nations?
