Role model
by Kuldeep on Mar 04, 2003 08:05 PM

Absolutely. He can be a role model only to those who have a miotic world view and a sizling hatred for certain sections of the society. Such a view is indeed an aberation.

This guy Bipin Chandra should be sent to a prison like Andaman and locked into a cell for fifty years. After that taken in a ship and asked to escape through the bathroom drain hole in the middle of the ocean. Then he should be asked to swim back to Calcutta or wherever he is from. If he survives then then lets debate whether Savarkar is a national hero or not. Unfortunately for Indians the Congress has twisted Historical facts and have given too much recognition to Gandhi and Nehru who were cowards and power hungry.

Exorcise
by Ramesh Nittoor on Mar 04, 2003 08:01 PM

Thanks to Dr. B C Chandras dialectical analysis of Veer Savarkar we have a much better understanding of Savarkar than before. However, such an analysis normally does not get enough measure of the real person and the fact of Savarkars undeniable impact on freedom movement is not fathomed by it.

One also hopes that by putting Veer Savarkars portrait inside the parliament we are melding the conception of Hindu jagrati within the confines of secular Constitutional structure and are able to exorcise the ghost of Hindu Rashtra forever.

savarkar's cowardice
by prabuddha sanyal on Mar 04, 2003 07:57 PM

a leader has to exist to lead. so it was a rational move by savarkar not to himslef indulge in not eating while his followers were on hunger strike. it would be foolosh on his part to do otherwise.

and i am not too worried about individually written history: who knows what one (or a few) of savarkar's jail mates had against him that might have had led him to blasphemy.

fascism is not defined by "beating the jews," it was just a consequence of it, an unwarranted one though, and no doubts about that. i am aware of bipan chandra's intellects. Reading a lot of books may make one a scholar, but one has to have some intellectual thresholds to understand fascism or for that matter the general theory of relativity. I am not sure bipan chandra has that to comprehend either!

This is just ridiculous. How can you judge a person on few things.

In this case , even Gandhiji should not be a role model.

IF GANDHI WISHED , HE COULD HAVE SAVED BHAGAT SINGH AND OTHERS FROM CAPITAL PUNISHMENT WHICH IS WELL KNOWN.

He didnt do that because Bhagat singh was getting more popular that time.

Stop criticizing a person like Veer savarkar , just because you need a ATTENTION. Rediff please stop publishing these kind of articles.

Regards

Mera Bharat Mahan

Useless interview
by Ravindra on Mar 04, 2003 07:00 PM

I think, these commies have really gone mad, that they are talking of all kinds of contradictory things at the same time. The real reason for attack on Savarkar seems to be the fact that theses leftists can not fight Savarkar's ideology at intellectual level and they are bothered because Savarkar's predictions are becoming true and his ideology is becoming successful. So, what do they do then? In a true leftist fashion, they change the facts, attack the person by making false claims, try to sell this falsehood in the garb of history research and hope that nobody notices. Whatever Bipan Chandra and his gang of discarded textbook authors talk is just sadism. Bipan Chandra did not quote Savarkar correctly while talking about definition of Hindutva. Savarkar had said that whoever CONSIDERS India as his fatherland and holy land is a Hindu. How did Bipan Chandra quote it? "Those whose holy places are in India are hindus." I may belong to any religion and still consider India as a holy land. So, how does Savarkar's definition exclude Muslims and Christians? Or do Bipan Chandra assume that none of Mulsims and Christians consider India as their holy land? If that is the case, then these leftists are the greatest danger to social peace in India. Other things in the interview are not worth of any comment. Everbody knows that Savarkar is one of the greatest freedom fighters. We don't require a certificate from JNU historians.
