Should conversions be allowed to carry on?
by Prashanth on Jun 11, 2003 05:04 AM

I am neither a religious fanatic nor a follower of the VHP, I believe everyone has the right to worship any and everything they believe in but I believe the whole essence of religion and belief is lost when innocent and needy people are promised jobs and a better life in return for their religion. Such abuse of religion by any 'sangh' or 'missionary' should be disallowed.

does my religion make me any good???
by satya on Jun 11, 2003 05:01 AM

God is the epitome of the greatest virtues. How can I settle for a God of imperfect nature or impure character to be the true God? So true religion should make one more virtuous. Its should free us from the evil things of the world- those attitudes, words & contemplations of the mind which are evil & aid evil, which tear down, which don't make us any good, but worse - things like immorality, impurity, debauchery, witchcraft, hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions, envy; drunkenness, haughtiness, self justification, wickedness, deceit, cheating, lying, stealing, killing, greed, flattery, boasting, lust, strife, double standards, malice.... If relationship with God doesn't take me away from these evilish things, that religion is worthless; that way cannot be true. So please think, which way our zeal for our beliefs is leading us..- towards more virtues & values? does it build in us more of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, meekness, faithfulness, humility, self-control, goodness, gracefulness, harmony, brotherhood, compassion, forgiveness, selflessness, empathy, sacrifice, sincerity, honesty, truthfulness.......

Need to search for the real truths
by satya on Jun 11, 2003 04:48 AM  | Hide replies

Prohibiting a person from changing his faith will be very shortsighted. If everything about life & beyond life was known beyond doubt, then we would not need to seek further anymore; but since we all know that's not the case, we should allow the people to seek & search for greater truth & understanding; and we ourselves should be ready to seek & examine whether there is a way that makes better sense.

The pope can say anything about India - The Indian press will defend him
by rajan on Jun 11, 2003 04:36 AM

Why begrudge the pope, he knows whatever he says about India, the Indian left wing rabble in the press and elsewhere will come to his aid.

If Hindus decline in numbers the left wing rabble don't care, if Hindus become the minority, they don't care, infact they get some sort of warped pleasure seeing conversions take place.

Remember what one Chief Minister from Congress said, "Our party is known for its struggle against communalism, particularly of the Hindutva variety", so there you have it, "particularly of the Hindutva variety."

So there you have it, with left wing buffoons engrossed with the "...Our party is known for its struggle against communalism, particularly of the Hindutva variety" can you blame the pope when he wants to reap a harvest in India. He can certainly count on support from the Congress and their stooges in the English Language press.

What are u cribbing about Arvind?
by Urshana on Jun 11, 2003 03:24 AM  | Hide replies

So India should keep quiet if Americans dont want job outsourced? India has no business talking about Pakistan and madrassas the list can go on and on.

Everybody including the Pope has a right to express his opinion on issues dealing with religion and its spreading. Agreed the catholic church has numerous problems so too does every religion. Ofcourse states cannot ban conversion its very citizens right to choose a religion of his choice. Tamil Nadu will disintegrate if people are not allowed to choose thats the essense of democracy. Where were all of you when the poor Dalits were tortured? Or untouchability was the inthing? Why dont u talk about banning Brahmins then? why should there be a discrepancy? If all are born equal acc to Hindutva u preach pratice it . Arvind you are turning out to be another Varsha Bhosle

Tell you what, Urshana. If there are terrorists going from India and planting bombs in the Vatican, the Pope would be justified in condemning India's policies of tolerating that. Also, let the Vatican proclaim that Hindusim is a valid path to the divine or to salvation. As it stands now, the much maligned VHP is far more eclectic and tolerant on the issue of plurality of religions than the Vatican is!
