Respected Sir

Absolutely Brilliant article...

I am intrigued by the name "Sarp Vinash"

Reminds me of the fabled Sanskrit shloka that says (translated) "Doing favours to an evil person is like doing an evil yourself, just as feeding a cobra merely augments its poison producing capacity"

India has been feeding the snake of islamic terror for too long. It is time to crack the whip.

Indian Army

Kudos to the Bharatiya Army...it is because of you people that we can sit at home peacefully without even thinking about any possible attack...

While you bleed, the nation's politicians are busy swindling the treasury...what an irony!! The Indian Army has indeed done a remarkable job in J&K as well, and it is because of them, that we have a hold on it today.

Sometimes, one wonders, what would it be to have the army just take full control of the state and wipe off all these terrorists because the ethnic cleansing of Hindus in the valley must end. For far too long, the people of J&K have suffered, regardless of their faith and it is time to end this once and for all.

The amount of money spent in mobilizing and demobilizing forces may better be used in some sort of a mini war...but then the economy will bear the brunt of all the costs!

Just thinking aloud, does anyone have any idea what might be a way to tackle this issue?

Jai Hind! Jai Hind ki SENA!!!

why dont we do it....
by Thiru on Jun 04, 2003 07:43 PM

Major General was right in every word he said. We have wasted 15 years, i cannot really come up with one valid reason why we did? And even more importantly i do not understand what are we waiting for ??? Op Sarp Vinash was something which should have been undertaken 15 years back.....we did not pluck the weed and now it has grown into a mammoth wild tree....only way of getting rid of it is to unroot it from the ground.....and this can be done if we do what ever Major has said....quadraple the forces, send them in 1:9 ratio, special forces with latest ammo.....then there is no reason we can fail...but why dont we do it?? dont know (:-(...may be due to some politicians.....true....Politics is the final destiny of .....

" The only time the air force was employed against CIS was in Mizoram in 1964 when rebels had seized Aizawl and captured an Assam Rifles post. "

A fascinating comment. May be I'm looking at it out of context, but the Major Gen Mehta seems to be suggesting that control over Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram for all you geography-illiterates in the Hindi heartland, was *lost* by the Indian Union in 1964.

I don't know if the good general reads this comments section, but it'll be great if he can comment on this in his next column. Why/how did the Indian army lose control over Aizawl and why is this not public knowledge even now?

Or am I the only one ignorant here?

We need people like the author (and other professionals)to be incharge of the entire operations at a political, civilian and foreign affairs level.

We don't need our politicians to be in charge of J & K or other disturbed areas.

Because the only objective a politician has to secure his seat whatever it may cost a nation, it just doesn't matter to him/her.

Neither they want to do something constructive nor they want others(in this case namely the army and paramiltary forces )to do something constructive.

The only thing politicians have been doing is tying up the hands of the armed forces and asking them to fight.

What we need is a very clear cut and practical objective which can be achieved by our armed forces without any hindrances from the politicians.

What we lack is a strong leader like Sardar Patel, what we have been left is with clones of nehru, cling to the seats at all cost let the nation be divided by the british and subsequently by others, just cling to your seats.

Hats off to the ARMED FORCES and their families who always sacrifice there lives for the nation, i.e people like us for whom it is very easy to write about anything under the sun.

use of air power
by PRAKASH MATHAI on Jun 04, 2003 07:01 PM

it's surely late but it's fine.use of air power was
perfect and the right one(helicopters) was used.
This could be enhanced by using spy satellites over
J&K border with good resolution.

Gen. is 100% right but the suggession is 70% i believe we should make pakies defensive in their own country by
1. conducting surprise attack on camp operated inside Pak.
2.training-equipping those elements inside pak. who are not happy-in a way use sepretist groups within Pak like shiya's, Mohajirs,Baloch communities
3.Using Mercinarries to operate within Pak. use them for Killing important-jehadi leaders/ISI officials.
