This makes one wonder why our military and politicians did not come up with these measures a decade ago !! It must be due to the slow and apathetic nature of its citizenry.
Major General Mehta has hit the nail on the head by pointing out that the political will and stamina is lacking in the political leadership in India. There are lessons to be learnt from the defeat US had in Vietnam, "you cannot ever expect to win a war by tying down hands of the armed forces behind." The US political leadership lost the Vietnam War. It looks like history is going to repeat itself in Kashmir. About the causalities in Kashmir, it is very small price to pay when you consider Nations integrity is at threat. India adds more than fifteen million souls to its population every year. Even losing a million a year in war against terrorism is very small price to pay.
I fully agree with mitesh. We should encourage seperatist groups n pakistan so that their army also suffers the same way as we are.. after all attack is the best defence.. lets forget Gandhi now.. times have changed now
Thanks for the excellent insight by Gen. Mehta. We are very proud of the acheivement by Indian Army and its brave soldiers, who unfortunately do the deserved attention and praise.
This Operation must have been a lesson for these terrorist and Indian polity must do everything to support endeavours by Army.
We all must congratulate Indian Army for successfully fighting and defending our country in a very hostile environment and under a very confused Indian government, which till other day was promising a decisive war against our enemy and now has succumbed to it's uncles pressure. The bloodshed will continue till our polictician dont stop counting votes for each of their acts. The nation is at lowest priority for them.
Based on what you have shared in your article, Major General, I think you hit the nail on the head when you talked about our government's resolve. Since 1947, we seem to be stuck with this Gandhian image of sacrifice and subtle protest as the most righteous way of dealing with any dispute. But all that needs to be changed. We need to defend ourselves and our country boldly, without any guilt or shame. And I believe that the soldiers of our country have been always ready to do REMOVE the enemy - through a long term, strategic, consistent implementation of force. They have had the courage, heart and resolve to go all the way and were prepared to pay the price to ERADICATE this state-sponsored terrorist infiltration since September 3rd, 1947 when Pakistan launched Operation Gulmarg. It is us - the civillians of the country and our representatives in New Delhi who have been sitting on the fence for the last 56 odd years. Hopefully, some of us who have been given the responsibility to run the country can get off of our posteriors and takes this righteous albeit bold step.
Till the time our journalist keep reporting for the sake of increasing their circulation ,Army is not going to earn a good name whatever they may achieve.Patriotism can be shown by our journalist fraternity by supporting the deeds of Army and not by finding flaws that " Army was sleeping for four years and let HILKAKA develop". Before printing such accusations I wish even one of the media man could have climbed some odd hill not necessarily in J&K to learn that "Mountains eat troops" and all is not that simple ie guarding and keeping an eye on each and every nook and corner of the mighty Himalayas.

I agree with Sharad that terrorist is cheaper to train as they die with a score of civilian with them and the Paki has pursued with India on this- ask Premier Shariff exiled in Gulf about it. Destroying This guys is the best Solution and all mechanism should be pursued only then Murraraf should be held accountable as the biggest terrorist.
