rediscover india
by shankar on Dec 10, 2003 03:23 PM

this was a very mature article. very specific on the details. our indians desperately need to rediscover india. not just the NRIs, more importantly the resident indians need to pride themselves on belonging to india. It does not require a Nehru to write another "Rediscovery of India". We should search for it ourselves. We find it ourselves, and the world will realise it soon. We need not take the pain to teach the world about our country.

Love Live Mr Malhotra.....BRAND INDIA
by bharat kumar on Dec 10, 2003 06:14 AM

Mr. MALHOTRA is very much right. If we want to make India rich then we must sell Indian brand properly. Communist and congress wont like that and they agent would take away any thing that could empower Indian dalit and women. These anti India forces must be identified and exposed before the public so that Indian poor can roar toward development and properity. By parroting anti India verses these pundit of evil forces want to keep India poor so that India cannot market itself and in turn dalits and Women of India remain poor. These poor can then be explained that they are poor bcuz they are Indian and must follow evil ideology and must kill their parent and culture. Only Lord Krshna can save us from suicidal India who have turned communist and anti Indian

Excellent Article...

Rajiv has not only laid out the problems at Western Universities, regarding India's brand image, but has also laid out the solution in black and white for all of the NRI community to initiate upon. NRIs and Indians should also realize that the root cause of this problem is that most of the academicians and journalist, who engage in tirades and public display of dirty laundry about India and its problems, are mostly marxist-communists, who have entered the field through the route of earning degress at brain-washing institutions in India like JNU. It is imperative to flood the university program at those universities in India with individuals who have the best interests of India at heart and even fund them if required to start the ball rolling, i.e. to initiate the change process. It is also important to manage the change process very efficiently and diligently without raising a lot of controversy, as the incumbents are very controversial themselves and would love to call the kettle black if given an opportunity. I hope the message is well received by NRIs and implemented upon.

No wonder...

Look at the number migrating educated Indians...this itself creates a negative image. While most of the people from other nation go there study, get experience and comeback, our people don't. As per a report published in Hindustan Times sometimes ago, 79% of Indian who go abroad settle there and never come back. It is the largest proportion from any country. The same for China, Korea and Japan, i.e, second, third and fourth in the list, was 13%, 9% and 7% respectively. Since Indians are the largest foreign student constituent too, c the difference in the sheer number. And what does this large-scale migration indicate? Bankrupcy of the society in terms of development and growth potential? Then why do our decently educated youth migrate to take up a job there, which he would never think of taking it up here? How many of our students would think of washing dishes, mowing lawns and distributing to support theri studies? Intriguing features....or should we simply accept that we, Indians, by nature are a greedy lot, servile, seeking praise in others' view?...May be...difficult to say may not be...any takers?????

need of the hour

i share the concerns of the author, most of us fail to recognize our past glory and go blind behind the west and believe anything other than indian is worth, and this is highly seen with the educated ones .. first, the feeling of indianess has to be spread within the country before taking it global.

Repositioning India's brand
by Vijaykumar S. Ijeri on Dec 09, 2003 09:28 PM

Yes, its high time we Indians ourselves stop India -bashing, and present the positives of India to the world. Its sad that the Europeans / Americans consider Indians as a bunch of beggars. Even for students or professionals working in these countries, it is assumed that, it is assumed that they were starving in India and so they have left abroad. The documentaries on National Geographic channel / Discovery, etc always depict the poverty in some or the other region of India. Even some 'ART' film makers exaggarate to show the poverty & misery of India at International Film festivals, because by showing such films they get 'awards'!
Do we want to tell the world that we are beggars?
Why not make documentaries about the progresses made in India? Software, for example.
Even in UK, Italy, Portugal, Spain, etc, 22% people live below poverty line. But they don't go about showing their misery!

Positioning Indian Brand -Excellent
by ashish urkude on Dec 09, 2003 09:08 PM

Indians must grow their brand in India and also in world market. Buy your own product and market your own product. Talk about your own product as Japanese did in 1960's and 1970's.How so ever the product may be

Very pertinent

Brilliant and very timely. Mr. Malhotra makes some excellent points. Indian-Americans are doing so well in this country, yet there is hardly anything like a pan-Indian lobby. Let's get rid of our "South Asian" mindset that hurts our own interests and image. For all the Indian contributions to this country and the world at large, even the educated American knows nothing of it. Yoga is mostly attributed to Buddhism (read the Yoga cover story in Time some months ago), the scientific contributions starting with the decimal system are all attributed to the Arabs or the Chinese, and so forth. In my experience here, even in this day India is mostly known abroad for caste, arranged marriage, and cows on the streets. It is high time to change this ludicrous image!
