I wo`nt agree with the professor sharma that it favours only the men 1.marrying 4 wives:-A man can marry twice or thrice only when he is able to justify & give equal rights to all the wives 2. Divorse of men:-A man can take divorse on gunine reasons defined by shariat.It will take at least three months to take divorse.it is not just uttering three words(ALLAH hates taking divorse on wrong reasons) shaiat give equal rights to the women 1.Divoprse of women:-A women can take divorse if she finds her husband unfaithful,inconistent,bad at behavior,not co_operating etc.In the Holy Qur`an a whole chapter is given for women named[Surah A_NISA] 2.ISLAM wants righteous way in every walk of life,a society with no evils.it asks to marry the girls n boys to be married early ,so that they should come together in life.(It is scinctific fact that the children born early to their mothers are more healthy than the rest) However in india it is very difficult to form UCC. There are many a religions,cultures,communities,langua ges etc.clubbing them is impossible.The govt must look at the poor,do justice & make india powerful.
let the law commission come out with a draft and see if it is possible to have a uniform hindu code which the north east with matrilineal system will accept
Prejudiced people give prejuduced opinions. Mr. Dhiwanji is no exception. The Hindu inheritence law has been changed in many states, I know in Karnataka for sure, and daughters have equal rights as sons. I suggest that the eminent Dhiwanji frame a draft UCC and put it to the readers for their views. From the reactions he could find for himself who are forward looking.
It was nice that you choosed the news reports, instead of writting columns! How perverse is it that, talk of UCC takes you to Hindu Bashing ? An article that starts with what some prof told you on cows. Actually DN Jha writes that, and the secular code prohibits any letters from being published in our newspapers contradicting the secularists! The secular brokers have really been smart! If the subject of UCC comes up, then talk about cow slaughter ! It is difficult to imagine what would be happening, if Muslims would be following common laws, and hindus having a special code! I think, there is urgency to convince the hindu haters that, there is a lot about hinduism and not killing animals in general and sacred animals in particular has contributed a lot to them! No body here is saying that, cow shouldn't be slaughtered but PIG will be sold in mosques in an UCC! Irrespective of that secularists will find out another 20 things that hindus don't like!
The article written by Mr.Amberish Diwanji is in total bad taste. It seems as on today, hindu bashing is the best thing you can do to get some recognition.
I feel, we need some revolutionary leaders to guide people to accept all the changes either UCC or others and not by stray writings by the author and that to in a bad taste. The author has to understand that, there are so many in a religion which can't be described by word of mouth but one has to feel it. Moreover, what's his problem if hindus regard cows as god ? Moreover, caste system is prevalent among muslims also!
What I have observed, 99% hindus and muslims want to live peacefully and even get along each other very well. But because of these so called concerned authors, social workers,and human rights activists the rift is created and widened. Moreover, their favourite past time is religion bashing, either hindu or muslim. I would urge all common people to be aware of such half-learned scholars who are only fit to be in politics.

Calling ourselve as a secular country, few critics may argue that there is no need for UCC, however, in this 21st century its quite ridiculous to let different people to havedifferent personal laws though the other are common. Which ultiamtely boils down to differentiation between societies rather than supporting secularism
I dont agree that UCC is HCC. However,i would not disagree that HCC is a part of UCC
