Comments on ''Stories they don't want told''
by Ashok Raman Kutty on Apr 29, 2003 04:35 PM

This is the first article I am reading in this "series".
The article is silly and does not deserve to be placed on Rediff. The author would be better off setting her pen aside for a season and working with the poor and downtrodden in Indian society in association with the Christians. Then, her perspective would be different.

Were they really 'Christian'?
by Robin C on Apr 29, 2003 04:28 PM

"We have endured much ridicule from the proud, much contempt from the arrogant"(Psalm 123:4) and maybe not all of it undeserved.

Christians are not perfect which is why they have acknowledged their need for a saviour. They are saved not because of their righteous deeds but because of the perfect sacrifice that was accomplished through Christ. So with all your eloquence Ms. Bhosle you really haven't enlightened the world.

If you have found Christians in the world who don't reflect Christ-likeness SURPRISE!SURPRISE!! you were just 1700 years late in your realisation. All you had to do was direct your readers to Matthew Ch.7 "22.Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23.Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' " A Christian is not a person who proclaims the name of Christ; He is one who is known by Christ. And one who knows Christ lives in the light of Christ away from the deeds of darkness.

So the question is were all these examples of "evil-Christians" really Christians? One day you can rest assured we will know...

Just on a personal note Ms. Bhosle you migh be wise to heed this word of warning..."The LORD detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished"(Proverbs 16:5). I do not say these words in angry retaliation to your article. He taught us to turn the other cheek...God bless you!

Utter Nonsense...Varsha
by Ajit on Apr 29, 2003 04:24 PM

Ms. Varshs...

I was under the impression that you were a well read female icon , but alas after reading this article I personally feel you are a blot on journalism. Hey Rediff guys why don't you'll scan the messages which these fundamentalist creatures write before it can be put on your web site.

I think Varsha has yet to realize the fact that it is the Christian Missionaries who had the guts to go into the interior region and speak the word ot Truth. It is they who embraced lepers when the so called Hindu devotees OOPS I mean Hindu aid workers spate at the lepers. If through Christianity there is development of the downtrodden , if there is peace & tranquility then you should support for the cause of it rather than giving negative remarks...

Hope you will raise your standard to some expectable level...

Wish you all the Best in all your future endeavours.

Ajit.

Varsha's comments are one-sided.. Know the truth
by Sam on Apr 29, 2003 04:18 PM

I strongly oppose Varsha's views. First of all, lemme make clear of some things. Christianity is not a religion, but a way and christian is one who believes in Christ and His teachings(The Holy Bible)-- according to "The Bible". When Varsha wanted to critise Christianity, he must have got the reality about it. Christianity never encourages KILLING OF HUMANS, FORCIBLE CONVERSIONS. If some one does these and claim to be a christian, he must be critised, but not the christianity. Varsha must make a note on this.
I don't think Graham Stains converted people forcibly. Rather, he served lepers along with his family and showed Christ's love. He might have proclaimed the gospel. You can't say this is a forcible conversion. Can you serve lepers? or your Dara? Can't. You don't help others and don't like others helping. If your religious principles are right, why don't you have a courage to face others? Let others proclaim what they believe in. Every one has a descretion. Must be good enough to decide what is right and what is wrong. Also, I don't think all the missionaries are dong wrong. If there's no truth in their teachings, why should people accept it? Well, you may say that only poor people are accepting for temporary benifits. I can show you thousands of rich(not poor) people who believe in Christ, like Late Mr.Sadhu Sundar Singh(Punjar), Dr.Purushottam Choudary, Dr. Rayasam Radha Krishna Moorthy, Mr.Paravasthu Surya Narayana.. many more..
Might be some people who claim to be christians commit mistakes. They are humans. I can't say they are Christians. I can show millions of examples of such in any religion.
My point is, critisise persons who do wrong things, but not Christianity. Well, if you any thing wrong with Christianity(Christ), you can point it out.

Dutch Reformed Heirarchy converted to Luxury appartments
by bharathan on Apr 29, 2003 04:14 PM

I do like reading your columns and rebuttals of the evangelists, but the facts that you state regarding Dutch churches getting converted to luxury appartments is not exactly the actual fact, but it is the monastries (yes, one does understand that there is not much difference, but still) are being geared to offer tourism bits like mass, wine tasting and engage in commercial activities like a business organization. This is the actual fact and that is restricted to the eastern parts of Holland bordering Germany.

Propoganda Material for stiring hatred against Christians in India
by James Kallery on Apr 29, 2003 04:12 PM

The article is biased and is an instance of selective reporting. Certain incididents in Iraq are very cleverly linked to incidents in India to be used as propoganda material to stirr up hatred against the local Christian community. The article serves no other purpose other than forder material for people who are against the Christian Community in India.
The article is not intended to stop conversion from one religion to another, it is just to instill fear in indians that once a person is converted to Christianity he will in all probablity be supporting Americans.
I sincerly hope my fellow country men can understand the diffrence between converting to another religion and changing alegience to another country. The Christian community is one of the most progressive, peace loving and as patriotic about India as any other community

Asim Thakker
another point of view
by Asim Thakker on Apr 29, 2003 04:12 PM

Soft corner for Dara singh?? Thats ridiculous and just shows that we are nearing end of humanity (btw dara singh burnt a missionary and his 2 minor sons alive in car even when pleaded to release the sons)
Nuns were raped in M.P, maybe there is a soft view on that too.

BAD is BAD. No matter what. Bad in iraq and everyelse where does'nt even give us any right to take lives or even feel soft for those who do. (Lets not forget what our culture really means)

On a point mentioned "conversion for food", Lets look at the other side, What would the state of people be, to be ready for conversion for "food"? This just shows hunger and starvation all around.
I believe "either give them food or the least we can do is give them the -freedom of choice-"

I dont completely disagree with varsha on few points and do respect the research she has done on the article. Attacking kinda journalism is good and invokes lots of views and I hope my views are taken in good spirit too.
