Most of the Films are repeated and a twist in story everytime, there is very little possiblity of movies going hit and new in idea. I feel even the list given by this autor is not correct, because a film is made for people to understand and every age must enjoy it. Most sintemental movies are flopped becuase no one bothers about it. People want action, justice, comedy, dailoges, dance, and offcourse affection..Movies like Devdas, New Delhi, Sholay, Hatkadi & Malamaal were made for people to see, undesrtand and go abck home happy. Any movie must be made remarkable not just the story line or acting..after all its WE ARE THE WORLD..afterall movies are seen by people!!

Excellent analysis...yes there could be many films that should have been on the list but alas, you have only 10 places. For those who are ignorant and haven't watched Pother Panchali, do watch it with subtitles if possible. Its one of the finest ever produced, its not about poverty at all. It is about LIFE. How life is lived has been depicted in the film. I have seen the movie at least 15 times and each time, the movie came back as new with messages. Oh yes, the book Pother Panchali itself is a masterpiece. Just fyi, Pother Panchali means Songs of the Road...

dasgupta,
You must be a Bengali for sure to come up with such a sugar coated comment.
Wonder why most of these movies have minimal audience in India then. I don't care for the west. They feed their superiority complex on such poverty and misery in third world countries as depicted in these movies anyways.

Actually these films are not understood or loved by audience. I disagree with this authors list.

I am bengali and I must tell you this....do not comment if you have not seen these movies.Only when you have seen all the movies on this list, then you will be in a position to discuss. Till then keep your opinions to yourself.

Again, that is Adoor's list. He looked at it differently from a regular viewer. I will say one thing though - Pather pachali and Aparajita (with subtitles) made me cry. I watched in before and it didn't have any effect, but when I watched it again, I understood why those are called master pieces. I also loved a Marathi movie called Harischandrachi factory...
