A lot have been said and a lot will be said in favor of / against Sanjay Dutt's past deed and the imprisonment he had served and he should be serving. No doubt 1993 Mumbai blast was one of the black day in History of Mumbai. What Sanjay Dutt did was neither ethical nor legal. However, the conditions which drove him to take that step were too extreme (drug addict, careless, connection with Mafia, Riots, threat to family, etc). What was more appalling was when he saw so much armory with a Gangster, he did not oblige his state duty to report it to Police, which could have helped police in reducing the impact of Blasts.
The other aspect he has served 18 months in Jail, post his release in 1995, his behavior has improved towards Country, society and Family. He has not run away from Law, did not involved in any criminal case, always obliged the court orders, started contributing towards the betterment of society in whatever way deemed right to him.
I feel at this stage, the purpose to punish someone is to make him realize his wrong deeds and make him better person. I think, on which he is already started.
Apparently, I believe he could have been handed 12 months more Jail to go through pain of missing your family and then serve towards society like serving mentally challenged children/hospitals/Old Homages/Aashrams/NGOs etc plus certain % of income dedicated towards betterment of society etc for next 10-15 years...
Probably that would have set a genuine practice..

I totally agree with you, all convictions as part of their sentence should be made to serve society under supervision.

Sanjay Dutt has delivered some good roles especially Munnabhai series..and all his friends vouch for him as a very sweet and humble guy..Even though we accept this..you cnt forget that India is a secular country and all people are the same in front of law!...Just bcoz he is a celebrity y shuld he get a preference..you will find thousands of people who have been punished despite coming from worse conditions and some even had no choice in it ,so what is it that makes Sanjay different ?? being n actor?..can any one who support him sa the same if he were a common man???..dont be a Hypocrite...( i have nothing against sanjay dutt infact i like him as an actor, but rules are rules so m sympathies arew with him..but i wouldnt go as far as saying that he shuld be freed while many others rot in jail for minor crimes)

His mother died in 1981 and he committed crime in 1993. What a mark left by his mother's death.

I do not know the exact situation faced by Sanjay, but had there been any problem and a person is attached to his mother, marks of death may remain even after 20, 30 years. Counseling in due time may change somewhat.

when his mother died he was a severe drug addict. In an interview he himself revealed that when she died he was in no position to react due to heavy doses of drugs. Pl don't try to give him sympathy from any angle. even after 1993 blast he was very well associated with Dawood and company. hence he don't deserve any pardon.

he was in regular touch with them even in 2002 which has been proved by CBI from the telephone details.

If they feel they are real life heroes..
by Maverick on Apr 09, 2013 12:07 PM

If reel heroes like sanjay dutt and salman khan feel they are real life heroes, they should accept what they have done and enjoy the remaining jail term without crying and making noise to garner sympathy!!
