Sorry, wrong number Raja Sen
by Bubla Basu on Jan 24, 2011 10:49 AM

Did Raja Sen study at Harrow or was it Eton?Or is he part of the Trinity College of Speech and Drama? Clearly, he has missed the point of the film, and that is his loss.

Its a waste of money to watch this movie. Just a publicity. Useless Diploma movie. I don't think this is a commercial movie atall. Priya Rao has gone nuts....

Towards the end, there is a dialogue of Munna about Arun"Kya,pata, kahi, pehli, biwi,ka,paas, chala,na,jaye!".

I find similarity in real life Kiran Rao and Monica Doggra's movie characters. Both are fan of camera and falling for a married man !

It seems Kiran Rao still has some doubt that Amir Khan may return to his first wife. This is salt in the wound of the first wife, the dialogue could have been avoided.

TanpuraAndRaag based back-ground score took me back to Shyam Benegal and Kalpana Lajmi's movies,it seemed to be a inspiration from there.Sometimes, backgroud music also had a mystic touch and seemed like back ground track of "KoiMilGaya".

Direction was 10 % slow and story was 20% over-intellectual.

Electronic drum beats was not necessary in the music at the end when names were shown, drum beats were against the mood of the movie.TanpuraGuiter would have served the purpose...

Prateik Babbar is promising,Monica is beautiful and Amir is awesome !However, excessive smoking of Amir was not necessary,it made the film look more pseudo-intellectual..

The movie's name DhobiGhat is also pseudo because there was nothing much about the DhobiGhat but more about the mumbai life in dingy environments,it could have been named as "My days in Mumbai" instead !

Over all,I encourage Kiran Rao and Amir Khan together to promote serious movies, but this one had no message at all.Kiran has potential as a director, she is sincere but she should reduce intellectuality because the best movies in the world are most simple whether made by AkiraKurusawa or SatyajitRay !

And I have a request to Amir, please donot lobby to send this movie to Oscar because it is not an Oscar material because that will kill the prospects of a better film of some smaller human being...

I have read up to three reviews of this movie. I watched it on Satuday night. Intellectualism was not forced into the movie, other than Arun being an artist. Handling relationships like this cannot be done in an overly simplified fashion. As you said the background music was incredible.

About the movie being sent to Oscars. I won't say that it is Oscar material. But if you can send 'Peepli Live' or 'Lagaan' to Oscars, something that handles complicated human relations in a relatively simpler fashion is better than movies tailor made for the emtions of our audience.

I did like something about Raja Sen's review too. This is one of the few films where Aamir khan has acted decently.

@Tintu VR,

Yes,Raja Sen has written a good review.

Characters of Arun and Yasmin seemed unreal, whereas Munna and Monica's characters were very real..

Yes,it is a good movie on complex human relationships..

Neta Ji's Birthday!!
by satyanarayan rai on Jan 23, 2011 04:09 PM

Today is 23rd. Jan. and it's the birth date of our greatest freedom fighter who gave us the slogan of 'Jai Hind': I mean his name is Neta ji Subhash Chandra Bose. He is respected and fit to be called Neta Ji not like todays netas, but I don't think much of younger generation is taught and told of his sacrifice and struggle for the country. Today we celebrate birthdays of Mayawati, and others like her but its so sad we have forgotten Neta Ji.
Long Live Neta Ji S.C. Bose!! Jai Hind!!
