I didnt like the idea of using farmer suicides and trying to present it in an entertaining way. They were using an important issue for making money and also to get awards as the West likes to see India mired in poverty and suicides.

Completely Agree... If poor would have seen this movie, they must have cried to see such cheap fun of suicides because of poverty.
tried to fleece money off the singers of this movie and also sidelined the director..paid for his sins..third rate gooon..if he cares two hoots about awards, why send his movies to the Oscars...hypocrite...
If the name was "Shht-Dog Story" it could have got Oscars...
I donot think any recent director made great movies like the ones made by great Indian directors Satyajit Rai or Adoor Gopalakrishnan,but even their movies could not get oscar !
Slum Dog Millionaire got an Oscar because Indians were called Slum Dogs and it was profoundly told by a british..
If one shht-dog makes a movie on the shht-dog system of the country,then that movie cannot be considered suitable to win Oscar...
