why do you ask Lata dude. Ask The great Janaki, She will tell who Ilayaraja is. IR is inappropriate for this this page. Ask Janaki, Suseela, Chitra and vani jayaram.

For you this IlayaRaja may be the greatest composer but he did not do any thing in Lata's life, he did not help her in her career. He did not exist then. Perhaps there is nothing memorable for Lata about this IlayaRaja. IlayaRaja just bought her time, paid and forgot. There is no chemistry between the two. just business. Once the deal is completed then who are you until next contract. But in her earlier days both sides needed each other. NOW THEY DON'T.
Unbelievable that Lata ji makes no mention of Anil Biswas, Roshan, S-J and SD Burman who gave her such outstanding numbers but chooses the mediocre and over-hyped L-P in her list. But I guess, it is best left to the individual to take his or her pick. I am sure 10 years from now, if she attempts the same exercise again, her list will be quite a different one.

May be they gave her otstanding numbers and she gave them the voice that became immortal in their music scores. here Lata is talking about her favorites and not ours. She is talking about her famous composers.

I have seen this calendar. SD, SJ, Hemant Kumar, Roshan, Anil Biswas, Kalyanjibhai anandji are all there. And this list is not in the ascending or descending order of her favorites
It appears that Lata was not in good terms on several occasions with several colleagues, like, Rafi,SD Burman, jaidev,SJ to name a few. That may be due to her sensitive nature. However fact remains that she is a great singer and could make music reach to each and every person irrespective of his calibre of understanding the music !
not a mention of SD Burman, Shankar Jaikishan and Kalyanji Anandji..good singer but doubt if she is a good human being..so many "misunderstanding" with so many people..

read carefully.
The veteran singer looks back at 28 music composers that she has worked with over the years, and writes interesting anecdotes on each. Here's looking at 14 such composers:

Nowhere is it mentioned that this is a list of her "favourite" in any order. Its just her comments on some of the famous MDs of her time. Deosn't seem like she gotto choose the MDs' list.

What about her decades long 'cold' relationship with her sister Asha? I agree with what you said - she may be the greatest female singer Indian movie industry has produced, but she might not be the best human being around...I thought she would not mention R.D. Burman too.

Lata may or may not be a great human being... but her tifff with Asha is the weakest example to prove she was indeed a bad human being.
At a stage whe she was struggling to take care of the entire family by singing in films -- something the entire family abhorred because they thought singing in films was a downmarket profession -- her sister forgets about how she was striuggling and elopes with someone and brings a bad name to the family. How do you think an elder sister in such a situation would react?

If you read the beginning you will know that rediff has listed 14 of the 28 names that were published.
