Hats of to Shankarnag............Miss him a lot

Hi Friends,

I have had the opportunity of meeting Shankarnag sir when he was shooting for Hosajeevana inside the quarters of bangalore palace where my uncle & aunt were staying those times. My uncle was incharge of the administration of the entire palace grounds as at that point of time My Granny's brother used to be the owner of the palace grounds and bangalore palace until Wodeyar won the case about a decade back and the property was divided among wodeyar and my uncles.

I have had the opportunity of seeing many shootings movies made in kannada, telugu, hindi and tamil.

Deepika (Sita) of ramayana fame while shooting stayed for 2 months in my aunt's place. She ate and slept there itself in my aunt's house and i remember what fun we used to have me and my cousins (a group of about 12). Shankar sir used to come for shooting and spend time with all of us. We infact used to get breakfast, lunch and dinner from the shooting canteen.

He saw us children together and jokingly asked my aunt if we were all her kids and it was a different story that my aunt had actually 2 daughters and rest of us were her nephews and nieces. He used to call my cousin sister bodamma and she was young and had her hair removed at that time. Infact for hosajeevana my cousin sis was considered for the young kid role. But my uncle rejected and eventually the role of Shankarnag & Deepika's child was played by a neighbour's kid by name Vishwas.

I cannot in my life forget the great time we had with Shankarnag, Deepika and even Vaishali Kasarvali who incidentally passed away 2 days back.

Shankarnag had a great vision for not only Kannada films but also the entire Indian film industry. I would also like to mention that S.P.Sangliana was produced by my uncle. They made huge business and money. But unfortunately when Part 3 of the series was being made, Shankar Sir passed away and my uncle lost a huge chunk of money and since then has not made any movies. My uncle has made atleast 6 movies with Shankarnag.

Let us not forget that the copy of the blueprint of the metro plan he made still exists somewhere in the old files of Vidhan Soudha. Had the metro project been implemented at that point of time, bangalore traffic woes would have not been this way. had he been alive, he would have been the best director of Indian Film Industry. I still sometimes wish he had existed even today. I just hate to see the movies of now.

We 10 of our friends had gone to Chitrakala parishath to witness his Girish Karnad's play Nagamandala. The Parishath had a open place with plenty of trees around it and the play was staged using the natural surroundings which suited the play well. The audience were seated on the floor with a small cushion.

This must be one of its kind to have staged a play in the open space. The play was super successful and only SHANKAR NAG could have have pulled it out.

HATS OFF to him.....

If at all if any thing kannada filmdom misses badly is Mr. Shankar Nag, what a talent he is. The kind of movies he made was way ahead of that times(at par with hollywood). In those days movies are meant to be seen for its royal sets, songs, heavy storyline or in short a typical melodrama era. Shankar Nag changed the trend and made his kind of movies(simple story, light approach meantime highly entertaining) Shankar nag's movie always revolves around a common person's life, movies like Accident, Minchina Ota, Nodi Swami Navirode Hege, ondanondo kaladalli, ondu muttina kathe, etc.. are some of the gems which has a high recall value till date.

Who can forget his masterpiece Malgudi days, till date he attracts the viewers from all the age group or times.

Kannada fildom no Indian filmdom really misses this maestro.

Arundati Nag's efforts really needs to be appreciated, she is one dedicated woman and wife who shares the same passion of shankar and taking his legacy ahead with Ranga Shankara
