Rajnisir is still living in movie era of 1980s, where all this funny actions and style was working. The actor has to evolve, he has to do some meanigful roles. I have seen his Shivaji the boss.. what a crap.!! Tamil movie industry is not making any progress.. still same weird cloths.. 100s of dancers behind hero.. common guys get some insperation from Lagan, Tare Zamin pe, Dev D, Black, Wake Up Sid, 3 Iddiots, Munnabhai ..

it looks like you know only Rajini in south and have zero or -ve knowledge about other movies.. Tamil movies are far ahead of movies you mentioned in your list.. 1. Pasanga (National award winning movie - Very nice to see with family) 2. Nadodigal (Very nice movie being dubbed in all lang) 3. Mozhi (Very nice movie expressing emotions of deaf-dump person) 4. kalavani 5. Ayirathil oruvan etc.. Guys , dont get into south north fight but i want you to be aware of otherside of the movie world as well..

Did you travel to other parts of bangalore? I am in Bangalore and all shows in first three days in major multiplexes and theatres are booked. I went to hyderabad yesterday on a business trip and there too same story. Know your facts you moron..and that other p.u.s.s.y who has commended you as well said..
When SRK or akshay movie release.. these stars go to all channels and countries,dance in streets to promote their crap movie.. IF a rajini movie is released.. the news comes in NDTV,CNN-IBN andall news channels.. this shows the power of rajini ..

rajini came down to mumbai just becoz for the producer and the respect he had of amitabh. he is not like junk bollywood actor who go every street and malls and dance before the public likemonkey to promote their crap movies..
rajini sir never tells come & watch the movie FDFS at any cost. rajini sir never gives any interview to any channel at any time ie either his film release or at normal time , to promote his films or for his personal reasons. every time he reminds his fans first look ur family , well wishers and urself. Only Rajini ( for me Thalaivar ) can create such a market opportunity for a Regional Language Movie industry, which is equivalent to Hollywood business...that too at the age of 60...In fact, this is how Chinese Movie industry reached global in late 1970s, courtesy Mr.Bruce lee...Today, Thalaivar Rajini has done it for South Indian Movie industry...He is truly inspiring...I learn a lot from him...He is the second best man I have ever seen.

Dude.. Avg cost of ticket price in TN and for that matter whole of India is around Rs. 50 FYI there are only about 90-100 multiplex with about 350-400 screens. Rest are single theatres...You got the avg seats right..
And at 50 Rs, 40% goes ent tax (I think 30% in TN)..with whatever is left in the 70%, its called net collection. Take about 10 % of that 70% (which goes to the theatre owner\exhibitor..that is called share. Depending on the understanding of the distributor and the rights owner (mind you its not producer. producer has already sold the movie), the rest 60 % is shared. Mostly distributors get 10 percent.
overall you can assume that only about half of avg ticket price is what the rights owner sees...if the rights owner is a moron who buys it a big price, he tends to loose money.
as for the film, it already has made money as for rajini, shankar, and main stake holders are concerned. if it tanks...the distributors, exhibitors and the rights owner will get screwed royally..
so redo your calc...though i dont know why we both have to worry about some sob making money, anyway thats the economics of movies, especially big budget ones...

I agree Rajkumar. What i don't agree is the terminology of "break-even" that you have used. Considering the fact that the budget of the movie is only a hypothetical figure (published by media), better off calling it a Revenue rather than break-even coz you never know first of all the total cost let alone the contribution margin.
The below message is for all who compare RAJINI with others/north indian stars.
No Super stars has a fan club in japan (im not mentioning indians over in Japan), newyork/LA-LV..please look at Enthiran sales then come to this forum and compare it others.. :-)
