I quit watching ManiR's movies after watching Thalapathi. It proved ManiR as an intellectually dishonest person.
From start to just before the finish Thalapathi is the story of Karna (Rajnikant) and Dhuryodhana (Mammooty. In the climax, the army commander (Rajnikant) ditchs his King (Mammooty) and walks away with arjun (arvind swamy)!!!! The army commander allows the King to die (what a shameful army commander he has to be?) and shamelessly he deserts to arjun’s camp. I don't know where any 'manful' army commander would ever allow the aggressor get near anywhere near the King. What kind of 'Rajneethi' is that?. Thalapathy's climax was akin to rewriting Mahabharatha's epic epitome of 'friendship'.
Mani 'Sir' (as the reporter keeps referring to) proved that he is a intellectually dishonest movie maker. He didn’t have the guts to make a honest movie because he feared that Rajnikant's fans would be offended if the army commander dies with or alongwith the King. He sacrificed his intellectual honesty at the altar of commercial success of the movie.
and this reporter says that Thalapathi is his all time favourite!!

Thalapathi was a mediocre film. Was watchable because of Mammootty. He was the only good thing abt it.

Its clear the reporter is in total awe of Mani Ratnam by the way he keeps calling him as 'Mani Sir'. What Mani Ratnam does best is he gets good tchnicians to work in his films. His films rely heavily on good music and cinematography and some slick marketing.
About A.Rai the reporter writes, "A combination of ethereal beauty and mind-blowing talent". This is a woman who got lucky in the gene pool and has nothing much to show. This woman simply cannot act, period.

Very truly said about A.Rai ... she's just plain luck .. or actually I should say just plain beautiful. Her looks have taken her this far ... similar to Katrina Kaif. I feel sad to see the state of Bollywood ... I'm hoping that this A.Rai - Katrina fanfare phase passes away quickly.
actually it is quite good.. keeps you engaged till the end..it may not be in the same league as "mouna raagam" or "Roja", but it is still a good film...
