A.R.Rehman appreciated and pampered more than his worth.
by Deepak Raje on Jun 16, 2010 12:12 AM  | Hide replies

Rehman has lost the magic of Rosa and many of his earlier songs. Slumdog Millionaire music was an ordinary one but he got free publicity because the movie was hit all over the world. Now every songs of Rehman are heavily depending on Synthesizer and Computer controls.

Hindus are really too broad minded. Can you imagine Rehman has left Hinduism and has accepted Islam in India without creating any music in the media. Its fine thats his choice. But now a days he is openly talks about relgion more than music...and in subtle way has a critisising tone agaist Hinduism and its concept.

Rehman is a lucky musician who has been unnecessarily appreciated and pampered more than his worth. As a singer he is just ok type but he cleverly hides behind his computer controls and loud music. He pretends to be a shy person but see in reality he grabs every opportunity to be on the stage and in the media.

I started to hate this fella once after I heard this news: In the movie Boys he refused to compose a song which is oriented towards a hindu god. We guys never appreciate any artist based on religion and there are many hindu fans. But pls understand that this is a true fact that this guy refused to compose a hindu based god song and that song was composed by a different music director and the rest of songs this ARR composed. You can check this news anywhere. All he wants is fans from other religion but he wont compose a song for other religion.

who asked u to expect lot of non desis to turn up? who asked u to think rahman won't be performing vande mataram? isn't it a tribute to his country? yeh jo desh hai tera is not just for an indian...its fr everyone. do u expect paul mccartney and madonna to sing in hindi when they come to india? why did u expect desi dancers to be der? it was ur fault u made a lot of assumptions and if they aren't fulfilled , that too would be ur fault, coz no one promised anything. not that u need to write everything positively, but the negatives u chose aren't negatives @ all.

he is a substandard writer/journalist who is struggling to keep his job. His writing style, line of thought everything points to that fact!!

In one side he is wishing that 'brown skinned desis' were not there in the crew and at the same time, he is complaining that the show did not attract white audience...! He has so many ideas like the thoughts of a drunkard... but, not able to channel them properly.... Well, if he had the talent to do that, he wouldn't be working for Rediff! :-)

Don't try to minimize AR Rahaman
by GovindRaj Shenoy on Jun 15, 2010 11:07 PM  | Hide replies

Rahaman is for Music what Tendulkar is for Cricket. I just can't imagine why this writer should worry about losing Pakistani and Bangladeshi support. The Indian Expatriate population is almost as large as the entire Pakistan and Bangladesh population put together. Let us not waste our time on such trivial things.

Jai Ho is a good song, but it will not be ranked in ARR's top 50 by anyone who has followed him since 'Chinna Chinna Aasai'! Every song of 'Jodha Akbar' was better than Jai Ho !

I wouldnt agree if u say that Rahman is for Music like Sachin is for Cricket. NO!! Rahman has not contributed for Indian music as much as Sachin did for Cricket..!! Just cos of an ordinary song "Jai Ho", do not assume that Rahman has reached the world.. NO He didn't!!

Compare Rahman with Yanni or Kitaro in terms of popularity in the world, and you will know what I mean!

Why don't you compare Sachin to Maraddona, Pele etc. Yes Sachin is great, but he's great at a sport that only a few handful countries play. The rest of the world that do not play cricket (like half the world) haven't even heard of Sachin.
Yes Rahman has changed the face of Indian music. While Sachin has not changed the face of Cricket.

alrite... first of all, I am not the one who started the comparison. If I had my way, I would have spoken abt AR Rahman and would have stopped at that!

Without taking any credit away from AR Rahman, I would like to tell you that he "has not changed the face of Indian music".

Sachin also did not change the face of cricket. He along with Gavaskar and Kapil Dev brought India at the helm of cricket.... His name was synonimous with the game in India and people wished their sons to play like Sachin!

I don't think that AR Rahman inspired the Indians as much as Sachin!!

Note: I have every album released by AR Rahman till date! So don't think that I am against him! All I am saying is not to get carried away!!

A R Rahman is a sound engineer and not a music composer. His new version of "Mile Sur Mera Tumhara" is a insult to the original version. who gave hime the right to interfere with the lyrics of the song???? jatin lalit were far better than rahman.

A.R. RAHMAN's - NO SHOW
by Varadachari Narayanan on Jun 15, 2010 08:44 PM  | Hide replies

I had been to the program at Atlantic City on 12/06 which turned out to be a disappointing show.

The program started @ 9 pm - 30 mts late after lot of jeering by the audience as there was no announcement. It was a disappointing show for Tamil Fans who were almost 75 % of total audience. Total about 25 songs of which only 3 Tamil - none the best of ARR. No Tamil lady singers. Hariharan was given just only ONE SONG - ALL LANGUAGES PUT TOGETHER ( INCREDIBLE - BUT TRUE ). Needlessly too much importance for Blazee. It was only lights, glitter, 3d et al. & a reasonable feast for those who can follow Hindi. Over all a " NO SHOW " for Tamil fans n a " SO SO " for Indian Fans.

Thats why I tell all my Tamil friends to learn and appreciate Hindi. Your grandfathers (who HATED Hindi) were wrong and they were real wrong examples!! See, now.. you cannot even enjoy a concert for which you paid money!

Kill that b.a.s.t.a.r.d CM and start Hindi Prachar Sabhas in all districts in Tamil Nadu! :-)

U r wrong my dear vimalan. I had gone to his concert in Austalia. There were 12 Tamil Songs in a similar show. He had totally misread the audience this n probably thought it was more of Hindi population. He was perhaps wrongly guided. What about Hari being given only one song when he is a multi linguist ?
