An ordinary song
by Kiran Kumar on Jun 16, 2010 10:01 AM

Jai Ho is a very ordinary song like so many other hindi songs. It does not have a class of the real rahman songs like those of Roja and Taal. Why do we indians get so much carried away by what Westeners think is right and worthy. We shud humbly accept the (Oscar) award but not forget what is actually (much) more worthy.

Does the writer attend the concert or just making up..
by venky dude on Jun 16, 2010 10:01 AM  | Hide replies

Mr Chabbra is totally off line in his observation. The Jai Ho song and the Vande Matram song were the high point of the concert. This was the best concert ever choreographed. I was there and i can tell every moment was absolutely electric. And let me tell you, i am not ARR fan or something. I just happenned to attend the show, because my collegue had two extra tickets. Being Indian and playing on the Indian sentiment is nothing wrong. ARR played all his best songs and if that includes Vande Matram and Jai Ho, no complaints on that. Please Mr Chabbra get your facts correct and report correctly. Dont impose your idiotic opinions. You did not like the concert, just go home have a cup of milk and see Sex and the city. Dont report something that is not factually correct. In fact let me outline the high moments (crowds went crazy) of the concert (not that the other moments were low).
1.) When ARR sang Jai Ho and Vande Matram.
2.) When ARR sang the Khwaja Song.
3.) When ARR and the troupe performed the medley song of mix of Tamil,Telegu and Hindi.
4.) The Swades and the Roja song ..

And, also on the same vein let me also tell you, when ARR tried imitating MJ, i personally feel it was stale. But trust me, the African American audience on the hall, went crazy for that song. So he played for everyone.

Rediff try to respect artists
by TruthAndFact on Jun 16, 2010 09:01 AM

Internet journalism has gone so cheap that any one with a key board and basic knowledge of English can scribble things up as an article...

For AR Rahman concert the tickets are priced out too much for an average american local to buy compared to Madonna, Springsteen or a Shakira show. Only North Indians bothered attending the concert and hence it was packed with Hindi songs. Rahhman does not have a cult following like western rock bands though, this is a first tour of its kind to promote himself.

Some are also criticism him for the hype but the fact remains, him being the most sought out Asian artist and Rahman should decide whether he can either do a Vangelis or a Jackson and take the appropriate path. He cannot dream of doing them both and attracting things else everything would fall out.

Foolish sentiments
by Jimmy Sharma on Jun 16, 2010 08:58 AM

I beg to differ from Aseem Chhabra. Jai Ho isnt about being Indian. It is a global message which means "May victiory be yours" and it is just that the message is in Hindi.

If Pakistani, Bangladeshi sentiments is what we should be concerned of (if any!!!) then Lata Mangeshkar should not be luved in every corner of these countries. A R Rahman is worth of all the parise he has got.

AR Rehman is a pretty ordinary composer and none of his songs are great...or even good. We have made him a hero because unfortunately no other better options are available. His best work till date is the Airtel Tune which took Bharti Telecom to great heights !!

...and now this guy Chabra....

Mr. Rediff, from where do you get such people.

Please give me opportunity to present my views in raw un expereinced manner, that people can relate to, as Mr. Rehman gonna perform soon in Toronto also.

Already the word is that the show highly entertaining and people feel their money worth.

The thing only matter is time and money spent is worth or not.

The songs in his films like Taal, Roja, Bombay, Lagaan, Swades, Saathiya, etc. are far superior to Slumdog Millionaire. Just because he got an Oscar for one film doesn't automatically make that performance his best!

All these ratings and awards are based on a bunch of people...! In reality, a song like "Mere Naina Saawan...." by RD Burman is ageless... but, it might not attract the attention of this bunch of people, and will not win any award!

But, those songs will stay alive in our minds, while these Jai Ho's and other crap will fade away in an year or two.

Now u can decide whether its the rating or the quality of the song that is important!

worst composition
by shaheen khan on Jun 16, 2010 01:30 AM  | Hide replies

jai ho in my opnion is the worst composition of A.R. Rehman and i am entitled to my opinion. his best work till date were songs of Roza and Bombay. Slum dof millionaire was also a pathetic film. neither did the song nor the movie deserved a grammy and the oscar respectively.

Good to see such real comments rather than the hypes that Rahman & Slumdog are Oscar worthy. They were supposed to be given the Razzies!!

Oscar for Best comedy actor...A.R.Rahman!
by Deepak Raje on Jun 16, 2010 12:13 AM  | Hide replies

Its really sad but...A.R.Rahman is looking like a joker. If you will see his video you will laugh. Poor guy just does not know how to dance! Poor guy is trying to copy Michel Jackson's stage performance and has made fool of himself. The worst Indian performance in the history of Indian music. See his body language...his hat...his hand movements...haha...so pathetic. Who has advized him to dance. Feels really sorry for him. End of A.R. Rahman music career...and now he can concentrate on becoming a good comedian!

Deepak Raje, for anyone who is regular here in rediff, your comments are not surprising. All know that you are a 'muslim-hater'. Your comments above are directed towards, Rahman - the muslim. Take a step back, think of him as a human being and most of the funny things that u mentioned would go unnoticed...! When you hate a person, everything that he does would be offensive and funny!!

Drink some water.. take a deep breath...! Calm down!
