A deal is a deal.......
by Cedric Vaz on Jul 13, 2010 05:16 PM  | Hide replies

Once a deal is agreed upon by both parties whether it is for Re.1 or Rs.1 crore - both parties should stand by it! This is what is called the art of negotiation. Everything must be finalised "before" and not after.
If Aamir now gives in to their demands it will only be due to his large heartedness or because he does not want glitches and delays to his soon to be released movie at the last minute. A bit of publicity in the matter will also help both parties. So it's a win-win situation for both.

Pay them please, they deserve it
by Ibrahim Sheikh on Jul 13, 2010 05:08 PM

Normally such things come into existence only after agreeing to certain terms and conditions or in other words a legitimate contract. How people can sing without expecting a decent payment for their work. Aamir has to compensate these people appropriately and better not exploit the needy but talented artists. They derserve what they demand now because it is already done and committed.

but - its alarming that aamir dint get it rght the first time. he paid the whole troupe like what - 11k ? for a movie production where guys like aamir get paid in crores ? surely the song is not a street play - it plays to a much bigger audience. i'd imagine aamir paying 1-2 lakhs to begin with at least.

aamir's a slimebag, much like everyone else who plays nice to the media

How much does a playback singer make a song ?
by antar jaal on Jul 13, 2010 05:01 PM  | Hide replies

Does anyone know ? The amount seems reasonable the singers are asking for seems reasonable but the singers should have negotiated earlier. I wouldn't blame Aamir for that. At least he is willing to negotiate; most Bollywood types would ignore it. Also, remember Aamir doesn't make every deal, his unit does. This is just a publicity stunt. I bet this troupe will take a step backwards in their career with this move (who would want to deal with them now).

aamir plays the "different" humble self before the media. 11k is measly amount. its not a street lay or a theatre they are playing it for.

Its not even 11k, its 1,100. Rs. 91.66 per head as there are 12 persons in the troupe.

Singing the song on a street will earn more!!!!!!!

Music Promotion

Before I start I am not with Aamir or the village singers. Just tryin to put my point. My question to rediff of wheter they checked the 1100 paid to teh villagers. Weren't the villagers aware of the payment when the composed the song. Now just to take Aamir side here... did any producer in Bollywood ever called village singer for music promotion. If he has to give them 1100 why would he spend nearly a lakh to get them to music promotion to Mumbai...Yes might be publicity stunt, but u can't deny his good faith in promoting the original composer also....The singers are surely given some good education by smart political locals....If they demand amont of 1 lakh or so it would be reasonable but only after tha song is gone for such big hit they are asking for 11 lakh. Is that fair on their path.... I hope rediff needs to check fully before publishing anything like this. Lets expose the people behind the changed mindset of the village singers.

For someone to get a foothold in Bollywood is such a difficult task, 100 times tougher than getting into an IIT or IIM. If these guys are demanding 11 lakh for one song, they are thrash. They should probably think this is a break for them and thank Aamir for giving them a break. Bloody rascals!!

The singers got 100 Rs per person. is that amount justified? What does 100 Rs get you nowadays?
Agreed this may be their break but this is pure exploitation .

lol, do you think the deal was like aamir... "tum, kitna, loge?" ..singers "saab, kuch, bhi,de,deo". There might have definate deal earlier and then after when opposition came in picture singers might have realised the real value of their song

They suddenly realised the rates because the opposition party asked aamir to give them the song rights. and when aamir refused they might have gone to these road singers

I will tell u a true story if you can patiently hear it. I had been to my cousin's wedding. We were playing antakshari out there. All of a sudden we heard a beautiful voice from nowhere. We were stunned at an old man singing so excellently. We will beat any of our playback singers hands down. He was so talented, but he was not lucky to get a break to show his talent. He remained a vessel cleaner in a chowltry in Bangalore. Aamir has been grateful to give this guys a break. Aamir was paid Rs 0 for his first movie by his uncle. Rs 1 lack per person for amaeuter singers. Holy christ. this guys are dreaming. This is their first break for heavens sake.
