There are two three facts regarding Guru dutt which i have heard from people of that time
His wife always insisted that she sing in his movies but he wanted to give others opportunity. But his wife fought a lot regarding this issue. He did not have a great relationship with his wife even before waheeda entered his life.
Another fact is that when one of his movie flopped none of his friends or people whom he considered friends helped him in crisis. This made him contemplate about life and go into depression. And anyway genius people are a bit stubborn, egoistic, short tempered and will get depressed if others reject their view.
In 2010 we considered Pyaasa, Kaghaz Ke phool as great movies but that time he was riduculed for making flop movies which were boring.
He liked Waheeda but Waheeda may have treated him only as a director who provided work. So here we do not have an idea. Gurudutt was from Mangalore, a costal city in Karnataka
Regarding Raj Kapoor i heard that since Nargis married and rejected to be his muse for life he started potraying women badly on screen. So it was not some commerical purpose but because he was just taking revenge on nargis by potraying women badly.

Pls. look at his work and it is his work that we appreciate.Guru Dutt as a person has and had the liberty to do what he wanted to do and who the heck are we to question that. Please see his movies like Pyaasa...it is evergreen and compare the role you are playing in this goddamn society....does it not prick you somewhere...If the medium helps you change to be better person try and be one.
Guru, Dutt, faced a lot of tragedies in life. Each one greater than the other. It was as if they were orchestrated to inspire him, to harness his creativity, to manifest itself on celluloid as timeless masterpieces.
The stark pessimism, the irony of life and the vagaries of human nature was never expressed so beautifully as in his films like Kagaz, ke, Nao,, Pyaasa,, and Sahib, Bibi, aur Ghulam,.
Had he been alive today, Indian Cinema would never had been the same, He would have carved a niche for himself in the international arena, and his films would have made an impression for its honest portrayal of life on reel using amazing techniques of lights and cinematography.
My favourites are Pyasa, Sahib, bibi, aur,Ghulam. I sincerely feel that Guru,Dutt,R D Burman, & O P Nayyar, should never have left us.!

Two Dutt's with althogether different styles. One, a great actor other a mediocre drug addict. Both went into depression, one committed suicide other one took drugs and making lives of his audiance misearable even today. One gem of a nation other wants to irradicate the nation with AKs, bombs and his underworld connections.
