'Writing credits' is a very generic term, my friend. A screenplay is vastly different from a story. Simon got the Oscar for 'best adapted screenplay'... and not 'best original screenplay' which I guess went to Dusting Lance Black for 'Milk'(original screenplay is an award which has substituted best story since 1957.)

Film is based on the book
by prakhar on Jan 03, 2010 07:52 PM  | Hide replies

i dont know what is the wording of the agreement between the producers and chetan, but if in the agreement it is mentioned that chetan's name will be mentioned in the rolling credits then he can not complain now. But at the same time i dont agree with the claims of the Vidhu, Hirani and Aamir that the movie is not based on the book. All the major scenes, characters are taken out of the book only and anybody who has read the book can easily see that. prakhar

chetan for cheap publicity
by Kartik Ganesh on Jan 03, 2010 02:09 PM  | Hide replies

I think chetan is trying to gain a cheap publicity out of this, he has sold the rights and taken money. After hearing audience response, he is trying to create a scene as if he has been cheated. People need to remember, Earlier a movie based on his novel failed in box office.

well you should read the book first and then decide....you may then find chetan's disappointment fair.......making a film from a novel is difficult you cannot exactly convert the book into a film....you have to bring appropriate changes and writers of the film have done a very good job but this does not mean you take away the sources credit.....by that I like to mention that I missed chetan's credit...its actually later on I came to know that he was credited at the time when the end credits started rolling....now who waits for complete credits to roll in the end....everyone stands and starts leaving the cinema hall and so did I....missing name of 5 point someone....as far as plot differences are concerned....the % difference between the film and the book producers are talking about is same % difference between Q & A and Slumdog Millionaire and to some extent we can say Angels and Demons Book and the film...but this does not mean you do not Credit the Author appropriately......while in the above two mentioned examples even the posters of the film said Based on the book "Angels and Demons" by "Dan Brown"......but this did not happen with 3 Idiots......while so many crucial points in the film matched with the book straight away........
I personally feel hiding Chetan's credit was not a very professional attitude from so creative people like Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Rajkumar Hirani and Aamir Khan.....and I do feel for Chetan Bhagat.....

oh man come on and at least now understand these idiots are making us idiots. This is all publicity drama to promote the film 3 idiot. Let us understand one more thing that aamir is good actor but not ferfect or best. We give him more credit than what he deserve. Kamal haasan is close to perfecr actor, and amitabh shahrukh ..... etc (big list)all are much better than aamir for acting as well as intertainment. salman is noe learning woh to act. Others are time pass.

amir khan not the perfectionist i thought he was
by farhad on Jan 03, 2010 04:19 AM

he takes credit for lagaan when he just acted, but doesn't credit the director and writer. He does it again for TZP, amol who wrote the script and even half directed, amir who admitted to no being an experienced director, he takes away the credit, again ghajni and memento, now 3Idiots. he is a great actor who tries to make his role perfect but not the greatest. if you want cinematic genius then kamal hassan, acted in range of masterpiece roles, directed, wrote many of his script, dialogues, certified classical dancer, choreographer, thats what you call creativity.
