No I don't think so. Personal view: He must have approached the film makers first as to why they have ignored him. After they rejected his demands he must have turned to media at last.
Films are commerce, and the producers and actors exploit the commercial success. Whereas, Chetan is an intellect; the original idea belongs to him; he MUST be given due credits; script-writers cannot simply take the credit away from the original story writer even if they change the most part of the story.
I would say a 40% from book and 60% novelty if you take into account the totally "inspired" and "adapted" scenes and theme from the book. However Vidhu Vinod Chopra was totally wrong in his attitude towards a simple question from a journalist. Moreover he is contradicting the goodwill and theme from his movies itself. he should apologize. And I just feel that there can be a little more acknowledgement of Chetan Bhagat apart from his name in rolling credits. He doesnt need Chopra's name to be famous..He already has millions of fans. In any case, the contract should contain all the clauses..a good lesson for the future
Chetan comes from a decent and intellectual background. he need not do any publicity stuff. Naturally all film personalities are nothign but pieces of shit... The Minimum they could have done is pay a royalty to chetan and settle the whole issue..Why eat the whole money that is created out of aidea someone else gave in his book to start with whether it is 10% or 70%..

true but in our country people flout all IP rights/copyrights etc
this should be a good example that such big producers can also do such things
In fact it is always the big people who flout such laws to commercial use.
I have also read the book & seen the movie, I think Chetan Bhagat should get due credit,
Lot of the scenes can be related straight to the book.
