Fantastic south Indian directors create a classic and beat Hindi masala item girl movies.
But I&B ministry will send some Bollywood masala movie as India's entry to the Oscars the next year. There will be huge excitement created in North India about that Bollywood movie. Not one channel will question why the south Indian movie which won the national award was not sent.
Then on awards nigt at the oscars Indian entry as always gets no award! north Indian channels will scream 'Discrimination' and claim that our 'Global icon' Bollywood item girls and stars are not given Oscar by Goras because they have double standards against Indians.
Little will any Bollywood director or actor or News Channel speak about 'Double standards' within India which discriminates against sending the South Indian movie that won the 'national award' to the Oscars.

Well said.. Only Bollywood films (masala ones) are sent to the Oscars. And they are thrown outright by the Oscar committee (even the Oscar committe is flawed, giving SDM so many awards)

I think it is grossly unfair to trash all Hindi movies. No doubt many are tasteless, but recently, we have had a spate of good movies. I can strongly recommend Johny Gaddar, Aamir, Wednesday, and the Shakespeare adaptations (Omkara and Maqbool), both of which show a high level of intellect on the part of the director. And what about Lagaan, Rang De Basanti and Taare Zamin Par? There is absolutely nothing wrong with these movies being nominated for Oscar. Whether Oscar awards are worth their hyped value is a totally different question, though.

The later movies have a star like aamir, so his movies coupled with his new talent for takin acting seriously instead of doin his romance movies in the early days makes the movie popular.
Otherwise, why wud india complain abt slumdog getting award while showin india's poverty, bt they don't make a big deal of lagaan also showin india's poverty durin pre-independence and rang de on corrupt politics. Rather they hail those movies being nominated in oscars/bafta a "proud moment" of india, hence ther ar discussions goin on all news channels especialy regarding slumdog and india's poverty.
I agree tht slumdog ws overrated movie, its like the jury might as well nominate the dark knight fr best picture too. On the other hand glad thy didn't give award to benjamin button, b.c its a show off as far as brad pitt is concerned.

He is one of the higest paid directors in Hindi. His budge for malayalam movies is his salary in Hindi movies. Most of his hindi movies are comedy blockbusters.

we need 35 national awards. One for every state and every UT. This could be the only solution. But then some rebels who are demanding state out of state will want some more awards for themselves

If u dont understand dont say it as crap. And when it says its national. It means entire india and not just bollywood movies. And judges have watched it they have understood it . And more an art is not language specific. There were so many movies which did not speech at all and have won awards.Just be open minded and accept it if its good. Just dont comment without seeing.
The life style portrayed in South Indian movies are very close to reality. Most Hindi movies are just fantasy movies (one recent exception being SRK's Swades).

Good South Indian movies are never dubbed into Hindi/ or any North Indian language. Probably what you saw represented the worst types...

Dear readers, All his hindi films are remake of malayalam films of other directors' or remake of other foreign language made in malayalam and its' remake. All his recent hindi hit films are made in malayalam in a period of last 10-25 years back.

You can't dispute the fact that he is the most commercialy viable director in Bollywood from the south. He has achieved more commercial success than Mani Rathnam or Ram Gopal Varma in Bollywood
today i came to know this actor's name. Prakash Raj. he does good acting i must say. a few south indian movies (dubbed) i had seen, he is in almost all of them e.g. aparichit, indra, etc.
Re: Prakash Raj
by prakash shetty on Sep 07, 2009 07:17 PM
great.if you get a chance to see a kannada film "NAGAMANDALA" pls dont miss it.its a master piece.you should see his acting in that film.
Jennifer Kapoor did not win national award for 36 chowringee Lane, Amitabh for The Last Lear, Jaya Bhaduri not a single in her career. And now-a-days everybody can get a national award, looks Jury is over-rated. It is shame for our jury who could not provide Jennifer or Jaya ( even Amitabh for Last Lear) any award in their career
Re: Award
by Devin Aaron on Sep 08, 2009 03:58 AM
what ar u talking about, bachan got national award for overrated performances and ur right by saying jury is also over rated. National awards is for movies all over india, incase you don't know that its not about hindi movies. B.c it will be obvious national award for national language and hence national actors like the ones you mentioned.
Jury made good choices this year too for all the artists represent diffrnt movies and language.
Re: Award
by sam puzhakkal on Sep 08, 2009 08:17 AM
Lol.."nowadays every one can get a National award".
Dude only one person can get an award for 'Best Actor' in a year (on a rare ocassion there are joint winners). Ditto for best actress, best director etc.
How can everyone get a National award now-a-days. Do you think National award is distributed every single day from every street corner by every bhelpuri and pani puri wallah?!
