After all its illegal
by Atanu Chatterjee on May 20, 2009 05:49 PM  | Hide replies

The process/methodology can be discussed and debated but the bottomline is the illegal homes will be destroyed and theres nothing shocking about it. The media needs to be responsible while reporting such news.

1st this people bark about, illegal slums sprouting around cities & negligence of the Municipal staff to curtail them, now just becoz she is a part of an oscar movie, they say Pls don't touch her house.
Either the Media, is funded by underworld or the anti social elements not just in India but around the world.

Slum dwellers are NOT poor people.
Some of them are prosperous (eg Dharavi).

I know people who were given cheap accomodations (small flats) but they dont want that.

Does electricity bill and ration card make your home legal?
by MOHSIN PATEL on May 20, 2009 05:03 PM  | Hide replies

Does electricity bill and ration card make your home legal? - These can be bought from the departments by offering couple of thousand rupees (in bribes of-course). These officials wouldn't even bother to check the address and property details to verify if they are legal or not! This is the reason we have several thousand illegal residents from Bangladesh in and around Mumbai, it's smooth sailing for them because of corruption.

Just goes to show the level of corruption in India.

someone asking for favor of house from govt on tax payer money (under some scheme... call it free home distribution) because her child acted in a movie for which she had already been paid and she agreed to work on her own without any force. if someone is telanted then go and ask for work. they want to live life being son-in-law of govt because of movie success.

this is india's attitude.

india bol, you are absolutely right! did anybody wrote a single word about the plight of the other people living in the 25 other houses that were razed?

I have sympathy for Rubina, maybe she should ask for help from the producers of the film or from her wealthy co-stars such as Anil Kapoor or Irfan.

s mumbai, obviously you were lucky to born in a household where they had enough resources to teach you English. But, that does not mean that you can abuse the poor, do you know for sure that Rubina and her parents are Bangladeshi immigrants? Or do you ask that question because they are Muslim? And under what right do you demand to know how much money Rubina received from the producers of that darned film? Is it not entirely not their own business? Lastly it is obvious that they were not paid a big amount otherwise they would have been long gone from that basti area.

So, I suggest you mind your own little business and do not worry your little head about Rubina or other millions of poor people of this country.

Well Said Ahir!!!!! We have no rights to enter into others personal backgrounds. She was paid because she worked for the film. Do you think that with the money she earned, she could buy a bungalow in Bandra Area.. Common Man.. Have some Common sense. Dont mix the communal things with these poor people. At the same time, Railways has all rights to demolish the place. I am dreaming on Slum-free and Clean India.

millions of slumdogs
by mohan gage on May 20, 2009 04:45 PM

In a country with millions of slumdogs ,one slumdog millionaire story won't help to improve anything.
We need to take poverty out of human's here than that of otherwise.
I think it is a tough but achievable task.First step to this is educate all.
