India does not have copy right for poverty, so mny nations are poorer and miserable than it, But only India is capable of giving this message to world, that there is hope, that good will prevail and truth will ultimately triuph.
Time to show it once again in coming elections fellow Indians,
Let us throw out those all who are against this message which says SATYAMEV JAYATE. Jai Ho

The Bharatha bhoomi will once again flows another river ganga to make peace from this country to outside and gives colourfull dressed religions which is the sign of Bharatha Bhoomi natural resources.
The poverty in our country is only a word in dictionary. But Indians were rich in culture, corruption, politics, population, economy growth, education and marketing, management.
They will establish their own society in a discipline at any place of this earth.

I dont know any bollywood movie that was shot in real mumbai and not in studios. Can you look at any movie and say, this director captured this city at this period exactly the way it was? Danny Boyle and the British with their realistic filmmaking, totally got Mumbai as it was changing from slums to first world.

Slumdog Miillionare is a curse to India
by vijay on Mar 05, 2009 09:55 AM  | Hide replies

I tell u all, its really a curse to India. Many countries are already thinking india as so poor and this move given a long lasting impression that most of the indians are from slum.

Who can ask whats the prob for india by this, here it comes

I am in abroad now some of my foreign frenz asking me are you also from a place like this ? i dont feel bad on this but it shows they are assuming most of the indians are from slum...

Meaning MADE In INDIA means MADE in SLUM, do u think poeple will prefer to buy products made in slum ?

This is not just for products, even call centers, IT, manufacturing , automotive ...etc., they are feeling its really will be in slum quality.

Last but not least , we cant close our eyes because of just Oscar... i saw in the movie they are saying " You want to see real India (showing thief) and an US lady says i will show you real America and then she gives moeny to indian showing him like begger" what the hell is this....

Well said.
The unfortunate part is that people who are not native indians have already started assuming that most of the indians stay in such conditions after watching this movie.
Nothing wrong with the movie, its a movie with good concept but it has only focused on that lifestyle of Mumbai which constitutes hardly 3-4 %.
I remember in the movie...when the jamal makes a statement..........that the history of taj mahal was written by a bunch of LAZY INDIAN BEGGARS.I guess there was no need to make use of such statements ..............dont you think that it is exploiting India.
I am staying abroad from India for a while and I feel,I know better the negative impact that this movie has created on part of our country.

most products ARE made in the slum boss - have you been to dharavi?? crores worth of exports in leather and other small goods are made there - legally. so that expensive lacoste wallet, or the apple macbook case you and your foreign friends use is most like from the same place as slumdog. read before you write.

haha this indeed made me laugh.
Methinks, Mr. MKRamamurthy, forgot that this film is actually made and directed by US-Brit production, director. So there is no 'potential success in film making' associated with it, that should make one(in this case, an Indian) to feel proud.

how many directors in bollywood were accepted with bold movies like "Fire" or DevD, indian audience do not want it, and above all our politics does not allow so called creative freedom, if slumdog was made by an indian i am sure many halls would have burned. there was a protest in bihar regarding word dog in the name, but it was suppressed as movie is not indian. Did you read that?

Mtkfrs, Oscars are awarded by jury who vote for the films, they are 8000 plus in number from every country and has 300 members of the film fraternity who also vote.

It is a global jury.

Does filmfare have a global voting ?

Celebrate the genius in A.R.Rahman without comparsion
by Vijay Sridharan on Mar 05, 2009 09:16 AM

The great Alla Rakha Rahman has to be celebrated together for the way he approaches and treats life and success.Technically somebody may be far superior than somebody. If somebody has not won an OSCAR what it might convey is, though their content is technically sound it might have missed out on the elements that the OSCAR crew is looking for.OSCAR is a global phenomenon. One who thinks global goes global. You have to cater to the global audience. Before your work is out in the global scene, one must ensure the cultural barriers are broken and the work pierces straight into the heart of the audience worldwide. In this case our OSCAR hero A.R.Rahman has just not won the two oscars so easily like eating a cake. It's many years of sheer hardwork combined with the understanding of "SOUND" on a global perspective and not to forget his musical genius and "ZERO COMPLACENCY" that has fetched him the OSCAR award.Yes A.R.Rahman must be easily a few years ahead of others in terms of his technical understanding of "Sound" in the global scene.Long live A.R.Rahman,long live his contributions.JAI HO!

Take a chill pill & celebrate the win, guys!
by Rishabh Ravi on Mar 05, 2009 02:37 AM  | Hide replies

For the conspiracy theorists among us, lemme tell you India really is not the biggest market in the world and big businesses really do not have to pander to a British movie to please Indians. If these awards were being given for CC2C, yes I would have joined your ranks and screamed 'conspiracy'.
And for those of you who claim ARR has delivered better music than in SM (which I totally agree to, btw), wouldn't it be a comfort that his 'not-best' is still good enough to fetch him an Oscar this year?!!! Final point - the movie had won plaudits from almost all movie critics and awards' bodies. Surely there is something in the movie that deserve these near-universal accolades! For the life of me I do not remember any movie that received such positive reviews from every one (WALL-E was the only one that comes close).

Hi Rishabh,

You have echoed, most beautifully, the sentiments of a rather huuuge community of Indians who see SM as a film that MIGHT be selling "poverty porn" but was certainly not made to denigrate India.

All these conspiracy mongers are either naive or plain jingoistic in their world outlook, and more importantly, prime escapists who would probably fervently wish that poverty did not exist in India but would hardly flex their limbs to do anything to remove the same.

More to the point, I guess a large majority reacts the way it does because Indian films that are shot in Austria, New Zealand, Switzerland, USA etc are shown with their countries spic and span and most Indians foolish conclude that these countries are indeed so. Conversely, they fear that showing such "poverty porn" might end up stamping India as an abominable shit hole which nobody wants to visit.

These are extreme viewpoints and anybody who subscribes to them have dim regard for the collective intelligence of humanity and their reasoning power.

Guys its not a fluke. Its just business, just like Aish, Sushmita....now ARR...we know LOREAL, Garnier, Maybeline only because these miss pageants endorsed. how good is our own Sanzia. How many of us fancy a chance against any quality world player...but she was our number celebrity.. See you are seeing era where big productions houses like universal, walt disney, 2oth century fox entering india cinema...The world is in recesssion...india is much better placed...they need more ARRS...

Only sad thing is our old greats like Illayaraja, RDB were not recognized globally, because their works belong to different time frame....whats even worse is ...we fail to recognize ours own greats like Adoor Gopalkrishnan, Aravindan, Balu Mahindra...Oscar is not the last word in Cinema...

Some pleople say Illayaraja is best, not ARR....lot of debates..the simple answer...Illayaraja was a more of evolution and ARR a revolution. One way ARR changed the concept of good music, common mans music. Singers like Yesudas often criticize him...and they endorse carnatic music as the real music...for those people he was the answer...how many songs malayalam movies starts with words likee aah, aaah , aaaah, dha, dhaaaaa, dhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa....Come on huys....how many of us can sing that...thats because of the myth cretaed by the old religious gurus, muscians. ARR brought in free style music. In that case he deserves a not just a pat. Hes for sure a revolution. Even he need a hollywood ticket

I love ARR because his music anyone can enjoy, he broke the cultural barrier, an Oscar to him is great, ok its not the last thing in life , we donnt need such a hype...and SDM is not the greatest movie of the year. But SDM just manged to show the world, India's true colors. Just go to Gurgaon once, just measure the height of DLF towers there, thats the height of poverty of the people who lives in the slums. Unfortunately medias radar is fixed to SEZ and Multiplexes. I think the bollywood and cricket is running low on TRP ratings.

The point is that im ashamed to be a part stupid dicussion.
