Colour TV introduced in India for Asian Games in 1982. After that with limited colour programming, the first major 'Live' international telecast was of the 1983 Grammy Awards. That is what really opened mainstream India to Western pop music. It was the 'Beat It' 'Billie Jean' and 'Thriller' songs that are ingrained in memory, with MJ sweeping the Grammies. It was monumental and MJ will always remain special to all Indians of that generation.

Which Indians?

There are lowbrows & bottom feeders in every country. That's why goofers like Jackson & Britney Spears make big money. But India has millions of intelligent music lovers who enjoy serious works of art, not jerk & jump.

dude, MJ is one of best of modern global singers. His songs are amongst the best representations of music of the last decade.(he is a flawed genius, and had major physiological probs but still did well)
britney spears is a good performer. not great musician perhaps.

indians really have not cracked the global market in music. jai ho etc got big due to movie

you might be right, but what is global music market ?
indians not listening to 'hindi' songs but appreciating english songs only - is this global market?
is the GLOBAL music market only about english songs..if you say there are other languages as well then how many - only a few with 1 major hit and that's it...
we may end up saying music has no boundaries.. but language sometime do have.. only a small fraction of people in india know MJ but all know AR Rahman. MJ is global because indians listen to english songs and feel like 'modern'!

He was acquitted of all charges. He lost his wealth in legal battles and eccentric shopping. Coming to the skin dyeing, its all rumors. He was diagnosed with vitiligo in 1990(skin losing melanin and turning white). Most importantly try to remember the good things about him in his demise. He was a genius: Composer, Singer, Dancer, Performer, global celebrity. All extraordinary talents combined into one. He is a legend and has inspired choreographers, dancers, singers, artists, kids you name it. People started taking singing, dancing seriously as a career after watching him. Websites like Twitter, LA times crashed when people jammed the websites on his death. Even google, aol, yahoo slowed down under the barrage of people flooding in to pay their respects to MJ online. He is the greatest celebrity in this century and the King of pop. No one even comes close. Mayhe find freedom and happiness in his death. We have lost the greatest entertainer in the world. He is far greater than the media hyped trash like Curt Cobain and Princess Diana who just achieved greatness because they died an untimely death. To maintain a record and career like that for over 3 decades is no mean feat. A child prodigy and a legendary entertainer is what MJ will be remembered for

Gokul, Imagine you are rich guy in a town, how many people do you think will be jealous and working against you - My answer is the entire town...HE WAS WORLD FAMOUS AND CAN YOU IMAGINE HOW MANY GUYS MUST HAVE CONSPIRED AGAINST HIM TO FRAME HIM UP ?...None of the charges against him were PROVED...Its just that people took advantage of his child like heart though he was a grown up adult...

He inspired the whole world......
by Hari KM on Jun 26, 2009 08:33 PM

It was only yesterday I showed the videos of Michael Jackson to my 6 yr old daughter...I told her how great a dancer, singer and an entertainer he was. I was surprised when my daughter said..." Papa! every film stars are jus copying him." She became an instant fan of him. She watched all his videos again and again on the youtube. It was then I realized how he is able to even impact a totally new generation.

I grew up with in the generation who admired Michael Jackson in his peak........u ask any top dancers or artist in India.....Prabhu Deva, Hrithick, Javed or anybody.....they all grew up influenced by him and in turn has helped them in their career in someway. World over we could take lots of examples. He conveyed wonderful inspirational messages to the world through his music. He is truly a legend which has brought changes to many in a big way. No body in the future can never ever beat his record sales or can be another like him.

I only wished the media and people stop tarnishing his image with assumptions. I feel only a shallow minded person would misunderstand him.

His legend will live on and you will see more of new age artist inspired by him. May his soul rest in peace.

Michael Jackson was a split personality with professional excellence on one side & allegations of his ex scandals & the penchant for feminine appearance with all cosmetic surgeries on other side.Ones personal life should not be mixed up with his professional/ public life, but unfortunately, the personal traits & the weaknesses they breed do have an impact on the public images one enjoys. Precisely for this reason, some feel happy & remember MJ well while few others who see him from the angle of his personal life discount his professional excellence.Only a few will be able to see things very dispassionately & appreciate the good & discard the bad in a person.MJ's life is a lesson for all those craving to reach heights in their career to keep away from drugs & live a life free from all vices & perversions. But unfortunately, pride goes before fall & breeds,in the process all perverse ideas as MJ who developed a fancy for having a feminine look by undergoing series of cosmetic surgeries. If not,why at all MJ should entertain all such thoughts which taint his image which otherwise was held with high esteem.
May GOD rest MJ's soul in peace!

Pride goes before fall. He just could not handle so much fame in this crazy world and he wanted to make a comeback!!! Love for fame and money are never ending greed and MJ too was a slave to that

I attended his concert in 1996, which was just amazing out of this world. The crowds went berserk in Andheri stadium and he played and danced to all block busters. Music was thundering. Youngsters rocked and his entry on the stage in copter kind of thing was watched with bated breath. What a great perfromer MICO JACO was...coming from those rocking 70s. I am nostalgic today. BienuV
