If Rediff wants to make MJ's death an emotional exercise, then my answer to their question is simply "Nothing". MJ has nothing to do with India; he has never been on a romantic date with the Taj, nor has he been enamoured with Indian philosophy, culture, art, or tradition; he's never come here to pay obeisance to the Mahatma; he's never made a mention of any huge Indian fan following; never performed in a concert in Mumbai or Delhi. So, as a person, I'm sure there are only a few stories of brief interaction or slavish devotion to the King of Pop.
If at all there is a feeling of loss, it's on account of his music which came as a breath of fresh air and spawned a whole generation of dance music and a modern dance form. People in India will miss him for his iconic status in the music world, for his scandalous lifestyle, for the smallest details of his lavish and luxurious lifestyle, his grand persona, his many wives, few children, and numerous legal battles.
MJ's fans in India have never drooled before the King. And at the time of his death, let us not create an euphoria over something that never really existed in our minds.
MJ was successful in his own right; he created a certain aura of reclusiveness around himself; got himself into messy situations that hurt his career, fortune, and respect of his fans. In the end, it turned out that he was just another man with feet of clay, leaving behind a mountain of debt that luckily no one has to repay.

this shows how foolish people can be. why does he need to come to india to see Taj Mahal and study indian philosophy and answer question papers regarding indian literature.
MJ is a rockstar. That means he composes music, and dances for it. He needs to do his job well. Since he has been doing it brilliantly, he will have a world wide audience, india or US or germany. And regarding his lifestyle, why do you worry about his properties, his wives or whether he was lavish or not. Judge a person according to his professionalism, not his personal life.
For having fans in india, he should come to taj mahal, pakistan...he should visit kabul, australia...he should visit sydney, china...he should climb the great wall, egypt....he should climb pyramids.

I'm just replying to Rediff's question. There is nothing unique between India and MJ. Here is Rediff trying to create a picture of diehard fans wailing due to this man's death. Ridiculous! Indian fans loved him and his music just as much as the others.
There is no need for over-sensationalism. In fact, it's a time to re-examine our idea of the hero, the values of success, and the reality of human life.
I mean, how much unfortunate can a man get that he passes away just weeks before a dramatic comeback tour? But, that's life.

This chap know "NOTHING" about MJ. looks like a Bihari who came to Mumbai after MJ performed in the Commercial hub of India. The Bal Thak. of Shiv Sena had brought him down to India.

You are summing up to say nothing he meant for the millions of indian youngsters(who said the old werent)who were his fans from the time he was known till this hour of his death. But you know somethking, i am 58, and have always loved his music and dance and i nostalgicaly recollect all my dancing days of the yore, mostly because of our dear Mike!
For many Indians, western music means Michael Jackson. He is one of the creators of pop music. Also the greatest dancer on the planet. No one can replace him. His songs are still chartbusters. The introduction of new dance steps started with him and many others in the world are inspired by, even copied him.
I am a huge fan of Michael Jackson,I was shocked on hearing the sad news of his demise.Michael's legendary music will continue to inspire n entertain me,as it has done since many years.Michael will live on forever in the hearts of his fans like me,throughout the world From Abhishek Sen, Mumbai
