Surprisingly the list has more South Indian cinematographers like Ravi K Chandran, Santhosh Sivan, Rajeev Ravi, Natraj Subramanium out doing the northern masters - Ashok Mehta and Binod Pradhan.
You need to consider these in the light of the times when these movies were made. Then you would be overawed:
Aan Mughal-E-Azaam Chitralekha Black Devdaas Shatranj Ke Khiladi Lagaan Aasmaan Se Gira Aks Roop Ki Raani Choron Ka Raaja
Strange to see Paheli in the list. Actually now a days any movie list without satisfying the SRK fans is a blasphemy. Same with Dil Se and Mission Kashmir !!

Many of the movies above are pretty mediocre. But I think we are looking for movies with stunning visuals. In that sense Lagan was 9/10 in picturising a dry land with its atrocities.

The train dacoity scene was visually stunning, real breathtaking. The chase sequence against the backdrop of a blue waterfalls was also commendably shot.

I WATCHED ALL THESE MOVIES ON MY KHATARA 500 RUPEES CD.and i never got to see those brilliant visuals.
Its surprising to see black is missing from the list. It is one of the best cinematographed movie in the history of indian cinema. Ravi K Chandran is absolute master class.Creation of sets, those dark shades was a visual treat in Black. Its really shocking to see movie Moksha in the list. There are so many good movies which are visually stunning. Yuva Jab We Met Hum Tum etc etc.
