There is no doubt that Kate Winslet is a brilliant Actress.She has given consistently good performances.But a double win was definitely too much.She deserved the award for The reader but the best actress trophy should have gone to Anne Hathaway.
I was wastching Golden Globes yesterday on TV... I saw "TINA FEY"... I have seen her in Mean girls movie and in a couple of other movies... I liked her then... But yesterday I was totally flat... she is so beautiful with tons&tons of attraction...... Really so beautiful....
Tamil brahmins are too good in Music. They are well known for Musical knowledge and the way to access the path to Success. No wonder the Tamil Brahmin boy, Sridhar, s/o Sekhar has got the Golden Globe award.
Yes! ARR is a converted Muslim. His father was a tamil brahmin, devoted to Carnatic Music and Tamil music. Sridhar is ARR.

Rediff, you have lowered to such levels to get some eyes for your news.. what makes you think India won? so by your assessment a film like Black Hawk Down which is based in Somalia is a Somalian film?
Why is it very conveniently said that India had a good win? This movie is made by British team - director/producer/screenplay etc. Even the lead actor is from London (of Indian origin). It is NOT a bollywood film. Rediff: Stop saying that 'India had a good win'. Just because the movie is based in India and has some Bollywood actors, does not make it an Indian film. It is a British film with Indian actors.

It is British film with British mentality and British version of Indianess.
We should realize that the film was not in foreign category rather local. There have been several movies made on Somalia, Afghanistan, etc. Do they react the same way?
In Dark Knight, the Villain goes to Hongkong and China. So China go crazy about the movie, no because they didn't make it and they don't buy foreign view but we have open arms for any crap of us shown anywhere and easily associate with it and finally start owning it and promoting it.

I can vouch for the fact that if the exact same movie with the exact same scenes and everything had been made by an Indian, it would have been totally ignored, so much for India winning something, the only reason Slumdog had a chance is because it was made by a westerner, and yes, that is racist...
Whenever a movie made on disgust, poverty, or slavery of India, it goes to Oscars, Globe, etc and this time it won. I am sure they want to show how disgusting is India and paint the whole image like this so we can not talk about it in respectable terms. To give you an example, where I work, several people have asked me - is India really that disgusting and filthy? What I am trying to say that why good movies that show Indian values are not nominated if they really love our culture. Perhaps we will understand the motives behind this one day and outright and slam what we don't buy. But this is not happening today and this amuses me.
About the movie, first 1/2 an hour of gutters are unwatchable. I couldn't really take it that someone can go that low to show what is shown and today it is being appraised. The rest is really a normal story which goes just like other India movies. The only interesting part is the story is twisted so keep you captivated.
I hope the movies such as these are discourages in the future so we don't get ashamed when talking about them.

why are u ashamed when you are faced with the rality? the slums, child abuse, filthy streets.. all are a truth. and INDIA IS NOT HEAVEN TO THOSE PEOPLE AND CHILDEN WHO DWELL AT THOSE CONDITIONS. TRY TO IMPROVE THEIR SITUATION RATHER THAN PROTECTING YOUR...EGO.

your comments are pathetic. you are ashamed of watching the poverty, you should. but whom are you blaming? the people who dared to show it? at least this movie reminded you about the reality in india. you say you cant watch the things shown in it...the people who actually live in such filth should do waht then? do they have choice like you to shut your eyes and just make yourself believe that you arent living in the dirt? what should they do? you guys want to watch karan johar movies and dream about foreign and just make you believe that poverty doesnt exist in india and forget about those people. huh.
and no in my workplace show any disgust towards in india. they liked the movie because it is a very unusual love story.

For British people, earlier we were dogs and now "Slumdogs". The will popularize it so well, even within our community, so we get tagged with this identity. Boys, the British mentality hasn't changed and so are they selling.
This morning I was listening to "NPR" a popular public radio in US East. The talk show person happen to talk to a Mumbai Cinema guy about the movie. The guy from Mumbai outrageously said that Mumbai don't have guts to make movies like this and they will do it when they see so much publicity of such movies. So again the west is pumping up India to make such movies so they can feel elevated and show us in the same "dog" stereotype.
I hope we don't feel trapped in this. BTW, I won't associate this movie with India because this is not what we value.

a r rahman was not given golden globe 4 "teaming up with" M.I.A. it is for his beautiful background score and JAI HO song.....MIND IT
