Billu is the worst copy of a Malayalam Film
by shilpa ramadurai on Mar 07, 2009 12:49 PM

Nobody has mentioned here that Billu is a copy of a successful Malayalam movie "Katha Parayumpol". Billu won't come even ten kilometers near to that movie. Poor KIng Khan!

Forget the critics, go for the movie. A feel good film it has everything that a good movie should be. Excellent acting by Irfan - the movie belongs to him. Ably supported by Lara Dutta. She looks divine in simple sari and let not critics bother you Lara, you were simply superb. Then there is incomparable Sharukh Khan and his celebrity heroins in the three well or Choreographed and filmed item numbers. Pridarshan is at ease in this comedy flick. Good work, let us have some more of this genre of films Sharukh and Priyadarshan. This film deserves more than 3 stars and if it is not a hit, the audience is the loser. Gajini may be a well made film but the violence shown was not worthy of being shown - the film should not have been made and supported on the no. 1 actor of our times Aamir Khan. Amir work on good subjects and not ones that make you feel depressed and sad at the end of the movie. Similary, Slugdog may have won oscars and no doubt is a well made movie but it would have been equally good had the filth shown in the movie had been toned down a litte. A better picture of India would get more appreciation and far more acceptance.

excellent story...superb message

Mesmerising......A breath of fresh air after the run-of-the-mill bollywood movies churned out from time to time.Simply did not believe the movie could to be so simple...yet so special. The happy couple with their children in an ordinary village....the delabitated house....billu’s barber shop......so realistic...priyadarshan’s finest work so far...he has simply mastered portraying the village life....apart from rib-tickling comedy. In billu...he even went a step further......showed the way human relationships are....the human bonding.

Three cheers for srk for producing & acting in such a film......he played his part with panache as usual...but kudos to him for underplaying superbly. But of course the main attraction of the film is no doubt irfan khan ......who just got into the skin of the character. The audience must fall into love with him within a few minutes of the movie.....priyadarshan handled him so well...lara dutta & children also should get special mention for their part.....

The movie based in a remote village..but enthusiasm of the villagers to have a look of the superstar is tremendous...they are fso ull of life....the in-between comic sequences involving om puri, rajpal yadav, rashika joshi, mohan joshi, asrani are a treat to watch..special mention may be made for the guest house manager...I have to find out his name.

In the end srk’s speech is simply mind blowing.
Out and out an entertaining movie.....unbelievable with such simplicity & without

Saw it first day in multiplex
by BR on Feb 28, 2009 03:05 AM

Occupancy was low, about 35%.

All crowd was young fellows. Pleased to see that the crowd stood up for the national anthem.

Also everyone had laughs during the dry humour dialogues from Irfan. Incredible job by Irfan, just what the character asked for.

If not for anything, watch the movi eonly for the sake of Irfan. This is one guy who desrves Filmfare, Screenm Oscar, all awards.

lara Dutta was a surprise. She was awesome in ger simple sari. The children were a riot. SRK was boring, The glamour girls were most irritating.

The ending was amazing. Great movie. After CC2C experience, couldn't have asked for a more cheery movie.

Raja underestimates the presence of Om Puri in simple comic secenes.

FLOP declared
by Vikram on Feb 21, 2009 07:32 PM

Here is what boxofficeindia.com, the site which always supports SRK movies has admitted:

"Billu is well below expectations with around 18 crore nett in week one. The film did show signs of improvement on Saturday evening and Sunday but collections fell heavily on Monday and continued falling on the weekdays. The 8th day is also pretty poor so the film has little chance to recover its costs for the distributors."

So does anyone haave any doubts now!!??

Big stars like Akshay Kumar, Shahrukh Khan, and aspiring ones Emraan Hashmi, and Hurman Baweja have so far failed to put up big numbers at the All India box office after nearly 2 months into the year 2009.

Though the Emran Hashmi-Adhyan Suman starrer Raaz 2 did fare reasonably well, others have been a damp squibs such as the Hurman Baweja starrer Victory.

Farhan Akhtar's luck too ran out quick in Luck by Chance. The movie has flopped with collections netting less than 12 crores.

Shahrukh Khan's first release, an inhouse production with Irfan Khan and Lara Dutta, Billu too has flopped surprisingly. First week collections appear to be in 17-18 crore range.

In fact the biggest grosser of 2009 so far is the flop fare Chandni Chowk to China.

Chandni Chowk will look to Abhishek Bachchan at the box office again in Delhi 6. This is the actor's first major release in 2009. The film did not get proper multiplex release on Friday due to disagreement between its distributor UTV and the multiplex chains on revenue share. However in the metros where the advance was available, the advance booking for the Abhishek Bachchan starrer was strong, on par with CC2C and ahead of Billu, two top openers of the year. From here, the film's prospects will go on word of mouth from Indian public.
